Re: Tipping

Arito,

$10 seems fine here. Never been to a comedy club where the tickets and drink tab were combined like this though. But $10 seems plenty.

Re: Tipping

Grocery delivery...how much to tip? Unfortunately the service I use has no way to tip using my credit card, which means I need to plan ahead. The last time I gave the guy five dollars which was all I had, but seems like I stiffed him, considering I would tip that for a 15 dollar pizza.

I usually order between 75 and 125 dollars worth, which equates to quite a number of bags. My front door is down a flight of stairs, so there's that consideration too.

Thoughts?

Re: Tipping

If he can carry it all in one trip, $10 seems a bit generous but you're right that $5 does feel like not enough either. Ideally I'd like to tip something like $8, but of course that's a bit weird so I'd go with $10.

Is this something like once a week or like biweekly? It's a decent pinch at $40 a month if weekly, and at that point I think I'd go with $5.

This is pretty standard at many hotels nowadays. I worked the bellstand at a hotel attached to a large city convention center and we'd always have people in with packages. Most of them were business related, like they'd have a booth in the convention center and just ship all their supplies to the hotel instead of the convention center because it was cheaper (even at $5 per package).

Sucks for the general traveller that isn't necessarily there on business, but as far as package delivery with regard to tipping, receiving a tip on a package delivery was so infrequent that it wouldn't count as a "run" if we didn't get tipped and we'd stay at the front of the rotation. We rotated around as we did bell runs and package deliveries. If we got stiffed on a bellrun, we still went to the back of the rotation. Only mentioning this part so you know that the bell staff isn't necessarily looking down on you if you don't tip for this service, especially if you're getting dinged for it and you weren't already aware of the charge. I'm sure there are plenty of self entitled pricks out there, but many of them know when something feels like bull****. I personally never expected a tip on these package deliveries and I always wished I could just waive the fee. I hated it and always felt embarrassed by it unless it was like, ten giant boxes of goods for their convention booth.

It's about twice a month, and it usually takes him a couple of trips to my door. Maybe 5 if I carry it in and 10 if he does? (Both have happened. One gentleman insists on carrying everything in for me and putting it on the kitchen table.)

Wage and hour claims include a provision for the attorney who files the claim to be fully reimbursed by the company for their fees. Any competent employment attorney will take these cases at no cost. My wife’s practice does this kind of case against restaurants and strip clubs on a regular basis. They are often slam dunk victories and she loves to do them.

Default tipping options for a $20 uber ride are $5, $10, $15 for me. WTF.

The right play there is not to tip, and to go public with why.

Re: Tipping

I think Uber's tune changed changed when their drivers realized how little they were making after accounting for expenses including vehicle depreciation.

Regardless, I don't tip for ridesharing unless the driver did something noteworthy in a positive sense.

I don't see why I would for standard service.

A smile isn't a feature that matters to me. All I'm paying for is getting to my destination safely. That's the entirety of the job.

Good on you for tipping all service employees who smile.

Re: Tipping

The draw of Uber originally was a cheaper alternative to taxis that explicitly discouraged tipping. Old people don't like change.

Re: Tipping

A friend on Fb posted a pic of her tip tonight on a $324 dollar birthday dinner I would assume for like 6-10 people at the restaurant she works at and she got a 24 dollar tip....she posted that she spent the better part of 2 hours on the table. Guess she was disappointed. Large groups are the woat, gotta have auto gratituity for parties that large.
