Anytime I've been to these kinds of places the employees were paid normal wage, but that's in Europe where tipping generally is less expected than in the US.
I go to a place like this once a week ($12 massage special FTW). The attendant sets up my locker (robe/sandals), keeps the water/tea/fruit filled, and cleans up after you leave. I give him $3, but I have no idea how much he makes.

im glad we dont have all this tipping stuff in the UK, seems confusing, who do you tip and who dont you tip and also how much etc one of my friends is in NY just now and said he was on bus tour and there was signs up on the bus asking to tip the driver at every stop or something like this even tho he was making $20 an hour lol

thats a little extreme cause hed be making like $100/hr if people did. but i know for sure i wouldnt drive through NYC as a job for $20 an hour. its miserable in a car, let alone a bus

In the USA, forced tipouts to back of house and/or management is against the law. Suits brought against restaurants for this practice are pretty much no-brainers to prove and include attorney's fees to the waitstaff's attorney. My wife has won a number of these kind of cases.

If you're going outside of the norm to tip, make it a $20.imo.

I think 10$ is out of the norm, how much is that guy making out of that 284$ charge you think? Propbably a good 50$ at least. I am european though.

I found myself in a To Tip Or Not To Tip situation today. I went to a restaurant to stage (if you don't know that's like a working interview). I worked for about 6 hours and then the chef said go to the bar, order whatever you want, and we'll talk about the job. I proceed to order a main course and then they brought me two desserts, I drank only water. I've worked in a few different restaurants and this has never happened before. I started panicking a little because I didn't know if I should tip or not. I texted a chef I know but she hasn't responded yet.

Do you tip here?

You were interviewing. There’s no way they can expect you to have money, and if they do, **** them then I don’t want to work there.

Interesting question, krunic. I'd have no idea whether to tip there.

My knee-jerk reaction would be same as KatoKrazy, but people in the industry tend to take care of each other (or in laymen's terms, overtip like a mofo). When I go out with industry friends and we get hooked up, I always wait to see what they tip and copy them. A couple months ago, I tipped over 200% on a meal we had at a higher-end place and I never would have guessed that number on my own.

If you end up finding out the standard answer, I'd like to hear it. In the meantime, I'll try to remember to ask people I know what they'd do in that situation (not that their answers would be helpful to you at this point).

This wording is... odd. Not sure what ordering water has to do with anything, and do you mean you didn't actually order the desserts?

Assuming you were actually served by waitstaff and not the chef/manager, I don't see how this is any different from getting a comped meal anywhere else, so I def tip. Doubly so if this is someone you'll potentially be working with.

Of course you tip there. Just leave $5 or something
