So what does it taste like? I was too wasted to remember, and may have been too wasted to even taste it.

Just burns going down can my really taste anything, I'd equate it to vodka from hell

If you're genuinely curious you can buy it in any Chinatown but will probably have to ask around

here is soju, not the normal kind but the fruit flavored variety - it tastes like candy or one of those drink mix packets like crystal light that you'd drink as a child in the summer

it's actually legit good if you don't mind the sweet flavor and i enjoy them immensely - very surprised they haven't caught on in the US given the hard seltzer craze etc

blueberry is easily the best flavor

not a big fan of non flavored soju, it's not as good as sake and not as strong as the hard stuff and really doesn't have much of a role

but these guys, i love grabbing one or three at a corner shop and slamming them down while walking along the canal at night
It's obviously the go to drink in the Korean community, but I think for the broader audience of Americans it's probably too sweet and maybe not strong enough.

Was one of my favorite things to get drunk off of back in the day.

If the photo you used were representative samples and your total number of books is as high as it sounds, then that is a ****ton of free library books. Just seems odd.

Keep the alcohol content coming! Great thread idea. Definitely want to give that Mekhong a try.

The rose and bamboo stuff about 80 proof, the particular kind I like I order online that comes in a plastic jug and is 84 proof

There's literally hundreds of varieties of Baijiu (it's all they drink other than beer). The chinese swear there's enough of a difference between them but I swear I can't tell the difference unless it's a particularly sweet or fiery variety. They are typically about 90 proof but are as low as 70 and as high 120, they normally give the % of alcohol on the menu so people can decide just how wasted they'll get.

Soju is about 20%, as is the peach baijiu

I was in China for a couple weeks back in 2010. My friends and I had some baijiu a couple nights. Rickroll isn't exaggerating the violence of the beverage. I'm tempted to try to find some here in the US and get the band back together.

I legit want to negotiate rights to sell it in the US and then get investors to launch a huge ad campaign and pressure distributors to carry it - i genuinely think lack of access and knowledge is only think stopping flavored soju from having a big moment in the US

i think if people realized it was still 3-4x stronger than beer instead of looking at it as half as strong as whisky would be a big selling point to teens - market them like 40s for suburban millenials

future business partner? bonus points if you can speak korean cause i sure can't

I mean it's already sold widely in the US. You just have to go to HMart or some similar store to get it.

I think Americans prefer things that are fizzy. Also some stiff competition when you already have Ciroc.

Thanks for the mentioned of flavored soju. I had been to SK several times and partaken with the locals several times, the clear unflavored versions. Usually doing shots with dinner.

Have to see if I can find the flavored versions in the USA.

oh man that's now reminding me of umeshu, japanese plum 'wine'

lovely drink to sip on the rocks, only about 15% alcohol so you're not going to end up too ****ed up. the standard stuff is a bit on the sweet side, but I've tried some less sweet ones which are lovely (no idea about brands or anything, it's just been whatever the restaurant I've been in has had on the shelf)

do recommend

I've had a bottle (the same bottle) of this in my refrigerator since Oct 2000. In Japan, we (gaijin) would drink this with soda for a refreshing and light spritzer, almost. Since I've been back from Japan, I barely touch the stuff. Maybe I'll have a cocktail tonight, though.

Sweet, light, maybe 40 proof?

Also, JFC, that bottle is almost legal drinking age!

1. Yes, good sake is served cold and outshines that warm glop by a country mile.
2. Burn those books rickroll, you can’t be caught reading the wrong books/literature now days. And you are suspect just having so many books you subversive scum.
3. Asia and alcohol go together like Cheech and Chong
