I think I've told this one somewhere on here before but oh well.

When I was in maybe 2nd or 3rd grade, I was the last kid in my class to know what sex was (or at least I thought I was). I pretended I knew what it was to be cool, but I really had no idea.

One night I was getting ready to go in the shower while my mom was coming out of the shower and obv I saw everything which is super standard if you're 7 years old-ish but eye opening nonetheless. I knew sex involved being naked, but that's about it, so I figured this had to be what everyone was talking about.

So the next day I went to school and told all the kids I had sex with my mom.

Oops.
Did your foster parents find it funny?

My mom used to tell me that I was cold-blooded (because I was also cold, not evil or anything). In 2nd grade, the teacher asked us if we thought we were cold or warm-blooded. Thankfully I wasn't alone in being wrong, but it was a pretty lopsided vote. I couldn't understand how my mom and teacher could tell me different things.

When I was a little kid like 3-5, my parents would have my picture taken at the mall (you know, where you can choose between the silly fall colors backdrops and you kneel on that mini-footstool thing). So to get the kids to smile, instead of doing the "look at the birdie" thing, it was standard that the photographer would play a game with the kids where they'd ask you not to blow at the light that was lighting the area. Then you would do it, and they would hit the switch and turn it off and pretend to get mad or frustrated, as if you blowing at it turned it off like it was a candle. They'd do this a few times to get the kid laughing and then "ok seriously, now we have to take the picture" and then the kid was all giddy and happy and then the pics would be taken.

I actually thought that this light was somehow sensitive to air pressure and blowing at it actually turned it off.

Yeah.

Cut to years later, I'm 17 and I'm at some photo place getting my Yearbook picture taken. Everything is all set up and we're ready to take the pic, and for the sake of getting a taste of nostalgia, I start blowing at the light like a jack ass. The mid 20's emo chick who is running the photo session asks me what the hell I'm doing. I tell her.

Sarah Palin yesterday, ""I, too, am not knowing, do we use the term intervention, do we use war, do we use squirmish? What is it?"

Um, I think you meant skirmish.

Canada. I never really thought about it, but it does seem a bit weird. I don't think schools do that anymore though?

In french the word bones has the same pronunciation as water. So I thought for a while that when a pregnant women had her water broke it meant that she had something wrong with her bones.

while playing scattergories (yeah whatever) we had to think of mythical creatures beginning with the letter c.

my friend managed to come up with the following list:

chimera
cyclops
chameleon

guy genuinely thought chameleons weren't real. he didn't even believe us at first when we made fun of him, it was amazing. next time i talked to him he said he went home and read about chameleons for at least an hour.

Thanks to the placement/size of screws on roadsigns in the neighborhood where I grew up, from far enough away it looked like the speedlimit was 2.5 miles per hour. I spent the better part of a year freaking out at my mom around age 8 when first noticing this for driving more than 20 miles over the speed limit consistently. She never corrected me, so I just assumed it was safe since she knew the roads so well and the cops would never pull us over since we lived there. Warning my friend's dad to watch out for the 2.5 speed limit in a van full of kids a couple months later led to many lulz at my expense.

Pretty hilarious imagining him at home reading about chameleons and getting his mind blown.

You don't need to read a study as proof, many people counter thaw frozen meat and don't get sick. My mom used to do that all the time and it was never a problem. I've taken Food Safe and it is overkill, if people got sick as easily as they suggest, everyone would be dead by now from food poisoning.

I think this is pretty common in people (especially when young) who read at a high level. You get exposed to words that you aren't likely to hear pronounced in typical conversation.

e.g. I was recently talking to one of my smartest friends about his fantasy football team, and he mentioned that one of his WRs should be better this year because he'd time to build a rapp-ert with his quarterback.

Being from New England I've found that the whole west coast seems to have some bizarre misconceptions with regards to New England.

A waitress I was pretty friendly with at a restaurant I frequented in Vegas once remarked that us "west coast" people are a lot more laid back than east coast people (I told her I had moved to Vegas from New Hampshire). I gave her a confused look, and she goes "you're from New Hampshire right?, isn't it right by Washington state?" I'm pretty sure she thought New Hampshire was Idaho, guess I can see a resemblance.

I also had to spend about 20 minutes convincing another friend who was born and raised in Nevada that it is very possible to drive to New Brunswick from Maine. He was convinced that Maine touched no part of Canada and New Brunswick was an island. Guess that one isn't so bad.

Thought there was a word "safternoon" that was different than "afternoon". Somehow I thought safternoon was about 3-5 and afternoon was about 1-3. When I was 16 or so my mom was going to meet me in the afternoon around 4. I said " don't you mean in the safternoon?" after whatever weird confusion in there figuring out wtf I was saying she figured out i wasn't joking. I explained the difference and couldn't believe she had never heard of safternoon. Got out the dictionary to show her the obvious. That didn't go so well.
