I'm annoyed at it taking jobs away but possibly my anger should be directed at the business and not the customer. I'm still thinking there is a chance my anger is acceptable but probably not to the extent that it does annoy me.

You seem to be mistaking innovation for progress. They're not necessarily the same thing. In the case of self-checkout they most certainly are not.

Not sure how it works over there, but I love self checkout. Less so in big stores where you're buying a weeks shopping, but it's way more efficient in small shops where people are buying a handful of items.

Wat? It totally shortens queue time because there are more checkout processes going at once and since there isn't a checker there you are much less likely to run into the absolute bane of the grocery store; some old paying with a mother****ing check. Self checkout is the greatest thing to happen to grocery stores since the debit card.

I know it should piss me off, but since the subject is au courant, self checkout stations that don't have a mute button.

When I shop at the commissary, I have a choice between the loud self checkout reading prices to me and refusing to scan another item until it's done, or going to the live checker and being guilted in to tip the baggers who work for tips only, even though I need zero help with my one bag of items.

Military commissaries have lower prices in general and people tend to buy in bulk. So even after the tip to the baggers you are paying less and someone helps load your car.

The California plastic bag ban sure took effect quick. Stupid ass Vons has paper bags with no handle for sale for 10¢. I can only carry half the amount of groceries now.

People at the grocery losing their **** when they are asked to pay 5 cents for a grocery bag to put their lobster and filet mignon in.

They'll rail about how this it's socialist to charge for bags, but they're the ones expecting free stuff.
