I recently saw this movie again which reminded me. It is the scene were Sonny goes to his sisters husbands workplace (I think his name is Carmine) where he takes bets or runs numbers or something for the family.
Sonny had seen bruises on his sisters face and went there to beat the sh_t out of the husband. He ends up thowing him behind a gate and thowing some punches to his face. Very quickly you see Sonny throwing a right that he obviously pulls in so far that it's two feet from his face and Carmine flips his head to that side like he had just taken a Haymaker.
If u see this movie again, watch that scene. The reason it annoys me is that its such a good movie & that scene would have been laughable in an Ed Wood movie.
Plus - in the scene where Michael gets hit in the face by the police captain. You later see that his jaw is very swollen & maybe wired cause he can hardly open his mouth to talk.
And in most movies a guy would take 3 or 4 puches like that & then when u see him next he has a band-aid on & looks fine otherwise.

I disagree on mike getting hit. I thought it was supposed to show that he was fragile compared to sonny and his henchmen and then the rest of the movie could show his transformation to tough guy mob boss.
I think something got lost in translation cardfish. I agree with you about Mike.
He was considered sorta like the outcast of his family in a good way at 1st. Goes to college and joins the army. But he's not thought of as a tough guy in mob circles.
Thats why Sollotzo wanted to meet with Michael instead of somebody else in the Corleone family. He thought he could get over on him....he didn't fear him & didn't think the youngest son would realize what he really wanted to meet im for & there is that character Arc for Michael from the "American Dream" path to the Outlaw (for lack of a better word) path.
His dad (The Godfather) u see in later scenes didn't want him in the mob....he was hopng for him to be a senator or congressman which he saw as a legal mobster & that has been true in many cases. But the Godfather was old then & Sonny was dead & Fredo was no Godfather.
Anyway - My point was the Choreographer or Director or Editor or whoever it was botched that fight Sonny vs. Carlo scene so bad. That one right Sonny threw when he 1st got Carlo behind the gate was pulled in so much that it was comical to see Carlo acting like he got hit hard.
When the Police Captain had Michael held where he threw one hard punch that didn't look fake & then you see Mikes jaw all swollen & maybe broken with some wires - even when he goes to Sicily - u can still see the damage which is how it would be in reality.
