Glad you posted this because it reminded me of probably my biggest one.

People who put ellipses after written sentences for no ****ing reason, especially in work e-mails.

Are you trying to convey sarcasm? Was there something else you wanted to type but are too lazy? Am I just supposed to guess what you're trying to convey by doing that?

Infuriating.

lol my old boss used to forward our group irrelevant emails prefaced with "fyi ...". He would also use different formats, like "FYI_" "fyi>" "Fyi;"
The worst is he would forward us emails that we already got via higher level distribution lists.

I'm not usually this guy, but holy cow is this a lolwomen post.

Not having to talk with a cashier and getting out of there faster IS a service. Is bagging your own groceries hard or something? Are you forced to go through self-checkout?

More like lolpreferences.

If talking with cashiers (I assume you mean saying "Hi" and "Thank you") is somehow annoying to you, you are an awkward, awkward dude.

If it was just that, I wouldn't object at all. For too many of them, it's not.

I can provide the checkout service my self faster then the store can....... I can scan my item and swipe/pin my debit card at the same time, transaction completed under 25 seconds, pretty good service for me imo

Every place needs this

How much of a weirdo/nutjob are you if you go through self-checkouts so you don't have to listen to a cashier make small talk.

Good god.

The primary reason is that it's much, much faster- but if a secondary benefit is not having to listen to some old gasbag yap, I'll take that as well. Don't think detesting small talk is that weird at all.

Wrong thread. You're looking for the "things that should piss you off" thread. Only your first item listed really qualifies for this thread.

In before "when people nit up what thread a post should go in"

If I go to the store late they literally don't have a single cashier there and there are 4 self-checkout kiosks. There are benefits and detriments to the self-checkout. Caveat, I was a cashier for 3 years in the late 90s and was sick fast at scanning.

Benefits: I can easily verify the price on each item, whereas the cashier is generally too fast. And I'm not going to go through my receipt when I get home so I just use cognitive dissonance and say "I'm sure they got it right". Also yeah not having some idiot snot-nosed 17 year old boys bagging your meat with detergent and **** and just generally being aloof tards. I'd rather deal with a machine than most people. Maybe that says a lot about me but #DEALWITHIT. I also spent 1.5 years as a bagger/sacker and got really good at it, so I can bag all my groceries the way they should be ****ing bagged. It's not that hard.

Detriments: While I was fast before, these machines ****ing suck ass. It takes forever to scan an item and then the stupid lady is like "please place the item in a bag" when I just put a 24 pack of water back into my cart. DIE DIE DIE lady. Another detriment is that if you buy alcohol you have to wait for the old lady overseeing all 4 kiosks to come over and check your ID.

In general I think it's about 50/50. Neither bothers me, they are just different experiences.

People who insist on having utterly meaningless small talk in non social settings when i am trying to buy 1 gallon of milk and go home as quickly as possible

phb,

Yeah, the self checkout machines still **** up way too often. Thankfully at my most frequently store- the person monitoring it does a good job of clearing errors quickly (and without like trying to interact with me).

If I ever have more than like two things of produce, or any alcohol, I'll never use them though.

I forgot that this forum/thread are a bunch of single guys buying a frozen pizza and some Redbull.

I am doing a real grocery shop that will keep me +2 in decent food for two weeks and having a chat with semi-retired Grandmother while some pimply-faced kid makes money bagging seems much better to me.

Also, my experience with self-checkouts is that they are very poorly laid out for those who don't use plastic bags.

Lastly, given my level of intense organization, I'm pretty sure I'd take a lot longer to bag everything in a way I'm comfortable with than the kid tossing things willy-nilly in to the abyss.

OH, if you're shopping for a weeks worth of food, stay the hell away form self-checkout absolutely. Both in terms of number of items and things that don't self-checkout well it would be problematic and rude. I retract my lolwomen and add an ldowomen.

bagging your own groceries is a huge positive, baggers aren't the brightest group of employees and will do unbelievably stupid things every order

you keep it sorted, use at least 1 fewer bag on average, etc it saves minutes back home putting the **** away

someone that hears/reads about an isolated incident, and tells you the news in this fashion "do you know what people are doing now........."

just thought of something else, people that use credit cards for an item that costs less than $5

I know you are acknowledging that this shouldn't piss you off, but why does it?

Credit cards are faster and much more convenient for nearly any purchase and anyone under the age of 50 seems to be on board with this idea.

It takes up more time for one, and let's say you are purchasing something that costs $2, wtf are you using a c.c for?, do you not have $2 in your pocket?

swiping a card does not take more time than paying cash

now its perfectly reasonable to lol at people who never have any cash to pitch in on a split bill or whatever

The self-checkout is a smoker's nightmare. My local cvs has predictably cut back on cashiers because of them. But you still need somebody to grab smokes from behind the counter. If you can flag someone down right away to get them for the self-checkout, no problem. Or if the cashier isn't busy, also good.

But all too often a 3rd scenario occurs where no kiosk person is there to help, and the 1 cashier is busy with the annoying lady with a cart (who uses a cart at CVS?) and the coupons & checkbook. Somehow the kiosk helper seems to appear to ask if I need help only at the specific point where this painfully slow transaction is about 8 minutes in and appears to be mercifully reaching its conclusion. Your options here are to say no and hope the cart lady doesn't stand there examining her receipt and complain about not getting a sales price; or you could say yes and let the person behind you in line check out by the time kiosk lady walks around the register to the cig wall and back to the kiosk and scans the 'age approved item' card.

Just an unmitigated disaster. In before 'or you could stop smoking'.

I have zero cash like 75% of the time because...well it's just rare that I'd ever actually need cash. I only carry it so that I can pay at my favorite cash-only joints and pay cabbies without them yelling at me.

Also lol at it taking more time. Even if it did, which it doesn't, we'd be talking about like a second or two.

Credit cards - depends on the system I guess. It's definitely much slower at beer vendors in stadiums. They need to be cash only.

It isn't really kids, but this happened at my local mexican fast food restaurant (Fileberto's for those who are familiar with the Phoenix area).

So I used to go in once or twice a month for lunch, since they were pretty close my work. They always ask you what you want, and then before they type it in, they have to ask if it is for here or to go. After this happened a few times, I started my order by stating "for here". Wait a second or two to let it sink in, then place my order. A majority of the time after I place my order, they ask me "for here or to go". And I politely repeat myself. They were so stuck in their habit that they just couldn't not do it this way.

A bit later they started asking it before they would ask for the order, and things were right with the world again.

Granted, they were ESL, but they had a better grasp of the language than I do on Spanish.
