Yes, that would be ridiculous. But if you play the game, as you claim, you must have seen end games where the result is inevitable. You're just being purposely obtuse.

I've got a queen and two rooks. You're down to a king only. Go ahead and fight it out to the bitter if that satisfies you, but anyone with a brain would resign.
