Incorrect. They sought permission first, and were given permission, to have the deal reneged on afterward.
Also, the music actually sampled was a background track from an Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra record and was neither played nor written by the Rolling Stones.
Of course, none of this was the fault of the Stones either, but of legendary jerk lawyer Allen Klein. He probably got most of the royalties himself as well, not sure if Jagger or Richards got any.
