Just another way to tax the poor, albeit more creatively.

Yup.

I do think it's hypocritical of the gov't to say "people are going to gamble anyway, so at least this way we can fund schools with it" and then advertise the hell out of it. Clearly, if people are going to do it anyway, you don't need to advertise.

Just for the record, I don’t think about the lotto unless it is in the news with a high jackpot or even play it more than a few times a year when I feel like paying a couple of bucks to seed daydreaming for a few days.

That said, I knew a dude in high school who talked about the lotto all the time-it was one of his things. Then he won a jackpot for few million pretty soon after graduation.

when I wear shorts to work and an employee that is an average of 45 minutes late per day to work tells me I'm being unprofessional.

What do you work that people can keep their jobs showing up that late each day, and are they hiring?

I'm kinda curious where a professional man shows up to work in shorts.

I hate it when pilots add an "s" to their call sign. There is a subset of airline pilots who, for some reason, always make their call sign into a possessive. For example, United Airlines flight 403 should be using the call sign "United 403" but some pilots will say "United's 403."

I get where it's coming from. The flight "belongs" to United Airlines and so the pilot has made the call sign into a possessive. Yesterday, I jumpseated from DCA to JFK and the FO on the flight answered every radio call using "Brickyard's 5904." I cringed a little at each usage and it occurred to me it would be a candidate for this thread.

Writing this, another one came to mind: pilots who begin every transmission with "and." For example, "and Kansas City, American 107, checking on at Flight Level 370." If we're just going to throw random conjunctions in, maybe I should initiate a call with "but Kansas City, Delta 425 is at Flight Level 350."

In my job, there are a whole bunch of nits that mildly irk me and probably shouldn't*. Perfect for this thread.

(* One of the most annoying to me is the use of the phrase which one of the moderators made into my under title. Just last night, the guy flying with me used that phrase when he made his top-of-climb PA to the passengers. I cringed inwardly, but didn't comment.)

I'm a software developer at a small company and the average temperature where I live is 96 in the summer. A lot of people I've met out here with similar jobs have the same type of casual dress codes, its a millennial thing

Everywhere in industrial RD, where I have been, I was pretty free to show-up when I like and disappear when I like and wear what I like. The only thing that counted was that work is done.

When servers instantly show up to remove your plate from the table the moment you finish eating.

The approach to "service" in general at nice restaurants as far as fawning over the customer goes.

Doubt that qualifies as SHOULDN'T piss you off. I remember taking one bite of my sandwich, getting up to take a piss, and it all being gone when I returned. Oops, so sorry, we thought you were done, here's the check. What kind of moron does it take to think someone would leave and not eat 95% of the food on the plate, and before the bill was paid? I was just a kid then, and paid it like a fool. In my current state of cantankerousness, I'd said gfy, call the manager, call the cops, I'll wait for them.

Dropping back in on this thread was totally worth it just for this. I've sucker punched myself in the jaw pretty hard in similar situations.

My plate was clear, so it was totally reasonable for them to remove it, hence shouldn't. If there was still food on it or I had only taken one bite like your sandwich example, I'd agree.

My approach to preventing clearing in your situation is to leave my hat on the table. Requires a hat, tho.

Waitresses that don’t write anything down when taking my order. I don’t care if they get it right, it still pisses me off.
