Not sure what this means, but I'm guessing the soccer equivalent would be scoring most of your goals from penalties.

I agree 100% the worst parts of the day on the DC Metro comes usually with the high school kids who are commuting to the inner city high schools. There's an internal competition among themselves of who can be the biggest trolls. Other than that it's usually ok. NY with the train performers and the sheer number of crazies make NY an Uber everywhere town anytime I'm there.

I was slightly amused, thinking that he is going to pull out his best piece. The dude pulls out the real gun, gives it to woman and she hands a bunch of money over. *heart* Thank you. The sad thing is that I know better. But somehow.... Probably because in Russian it is possible to tell such story as well in present as in in past tense. In present tense in Russian it sounds more dramatically. It kind of should take the reader directly to the situation.

Kick me. Every correction increases number of instances I will do it right in the future.

And.... I am actually kind of almost normal. I understand that being loud on the public transportation is pretty normal and I don't react this way in the daylight. But FIVE A.M.! They were the only group on the train making any noise.

I appreciate this thread big time. It is not the first case when I am instead of slowly boiling and exploding at some point just write it down and feel pretty OK about situation afterwards.

When I go to restaurants or coffee shops with my work badge on and I get addressed by name.

Amoeba,

Great entry. I feel the same way, and I don't even have a work badge. At some lunch places, I have never given my name directly, but a worker has remembered it from my credit card, and addressed me by name the next time I went there. I think he's just trying to be friendly and customer service-oriented, but it was rather off-putting.

I'm an introvert though. Some of my extrovert friends would welcome such a thing, Are you also an introvert?

Kinda awkward when your work badge or credit card say Greg Oreo though.

I've heard about people who are too poor to have multiple identities under different names, but until now I had never actually encountered such a person. I find you can't truly be friends with people who are less wealthy because you have to constantly censor yourself. The way you talk around them and what you say or share has to be controlled and that prevents you from actually having a true friendship.

I used to give the name “Mack” to the barista because they always misheard and misspelled my less common name creating more interaction than I preferred. It has become much more common/popular in the last 5 years (which pisses me off a little).

I stopped doing it when one day my coworker, who was behind me in line and heard me give the fake name, gave my real name as a fake name to troll me. After that I just practiced enunciating more.

Ray,

People often say that and it makes no sense. You can't be friends without appearing to be friends since otherwise you are not enjoying any of the benefits of having friends and it defeats the whole point of making friends. Likewise you can't appear to be friends without actually being so. Faking it will never fool the observant people, even the not very observant will start to figure it out within a year and at eighteen months max you'll be so emotionally ****ed that you can't keep faking it and you'll have to spend the next ten years living as true friends as you dig yourself out of all the damage you did.

A coworker went to the doctor and found out he had a huge build up of earwax. The doctor removed it and he said his hearing improved so much he felt like he had a super power now after living with diminished hearing for who knows how long.

I went to the doctor and I don’t have any earwax build up so I won’t get to experience that.

I think it may be time for a new Starbucks name. Nobody in USA#1 will understand me if I say “Lapka I am,” so I’m just going to go with “Henry.”

Howard,

They probably won't understand your pronunciation of Henry, I'd just go with something very simple like Sam or John. Possibly Simon might also work.

And that commercial is cringey. I liked his music tho.
A couple of weeks ago, SNL did a Family Feud sketch, and one of the contestants was "Common." He was described as TED Talk set to music. I thought that was pretty accurate.
