Good point. Not everyone has a recycling program in their area and may have lot of tin cans to dispose of. Also doesn't specify the tax burden of taking a car vs a goat.

The question would be better served to have two billy goats vs a female goat that gives milk...all eat tin cans at an equal rate...all with the same tax value.

ETA: the host knows which door has the female goat, but he is baked a lot of the time and often forgets.

jesus christ mods need to nuke about 20 posters who are giving this thread space ebola

let's try to get this back on track:

When people go on vacation and post pictures from (e.g.) the louvre and some jabroni has to make a comment that has no purpose other than to let everyone know that he ALSO has been to the louvre. "oh that's my favorite piece at the louvre"

another thing that pissed me off is that my friend posted a picture of himself in front of The Winged Victory of Samothrace and he was wearing NBs and I commented "you're wearing the wrong shoes" and nobody got it.

That Wendys gives me two salts and two peppers. I don't want two, I want one of each. I just ordered a spicy chicken combo with small fries. Why would I need all that salt or pepper?

Part of the problem is when I throw the extra packets in the bag - 99.9% of the time they both wind up in the fries. It's like some magnetic pull. So when I try to eat fries as I drive home the packets inevitably wind up in my mouth. Also it's just wasteful.

I could leave them in the car to use the next time. But I risk them making a mess or my gf finding out I went to Wendys and getting on me about it. But we broke up so **** HER I CAN GO TO WENDYS WHEN I WANT! But still it's annoying.

By themselves - the fries range from perfectly salted to under-salted. So now I don't even ask for salt and pepper anymore and just hope I got lucky on the salting. I could ask for one packet each. But trying to explain that every single time would be even more annoying. They're programmed like robots to grab two of each.

This is only a fraction of the time I've spent thinking about this issue. I'm not even really aware of stuff like this until I write it down. I think my brain spends about 99% of its energy on useless scenarios like this.

On a side note, I've been to the Wendys drive-thru by my house 100s of times and never seen the same employee twice. The turnover must be insane.

I think we're arguing that when the host opens the door and it's not the car, we don't know that the host knew there wasn't a car there when he chose to open it.

It's EV neutral to switch if he knows nothing or is behaving randomly, and +EV to switch otherwise.

Therefore if we know nothing about the host, we should switch.

we do know that, it says he knows what is behind each door.

what we don't know is if the host always opens a door. given that the host knows what is behind each door, optimal strategy for the host is to only give you the option to switch if you originally picked a car

One for you, suzzer.

Dad comes over today and I ask him how his Fire TV stick is doing. Hoo boy.

See, about three weeks ago I was over his house and he mentioned that he'd gotten the stick but couldn't get it to work in the TV. I don't have one, but I'm the technology guy apparently, so.... I fix it by putting it into the other HDMI slot which hallelujah actually works. We set it all up, password's in, I scroll through the home screen, put on an episode of something to check it out. All good. He's standing there the whole time, so he knows it works.

Two weeks later I ask him about it again. He believes I've performed some Penn & Teller magic trick on his TV because as soon as I left, it apparently stopped working again. I sigh and tell him I'll look at it next time I come through. He jokes that his SO must think he's an idiot yada yada.

Today, he stops by and I casually mention it again, as I haven't been up to his place in the meantime. He says he got it fixed by going to Best Buy and purchasing a Fire TV BOX and hooking them both up to the TV. And he's not even peeved about the superfluous $90 he just dropped on the set, he's mad because he had to go back to Best Buy and get a cable to hook the two of them together (or some such, hard to make sense of it all).

Nice. I thought the spoiler was going to be he took it out and put it in the bad HDMI slot for some reason.

And it's not known if the game show host knows what the correct door is,and if he gives the same option to switch doors every time.

Everyone makes assumptions in the equation in order to come to the accepted answer.

The assumption is the host always opens an incorrect door, and always gives the choice to change your selection.

If this was stated in the question,it does make sense to change.

And that's the other thing,if you try to argue why the accepted answer is wrong, people lose their ****.

No, I think you've misunderstood (or you are trolling). Either way, it's been enough of a derail...

Think about that for a while and get back to us. Keep in mind that giving away goats stopped being good television, outside of Eastern Europe, before tv was invented.

Only if the hosts objective is to not give away the car which hasn't been shown and is demonstrably the poorer option.

No,if the original question is used, caviats are given (the host always opens up an empty door, the host always gives you the chance to change your choices)
Then yes,the widely accepted answer is correct.

But it's not in most of the posings of the question, that's what changes the answer.

interesting thought!

just another variable to think about. could depend on the show, sometimes the entertainment is from contestants "losing"

In the proper statement of this question, the host always opens a door and always gives the contestant the option to change. If you've seen it presented otherwise, you've simply seem an incorrect version of the problem.

Also, this is a logic question and not meant to represent any actual game show (where, as kerowo and dkgojackets seem to think, they might have incentive to not give away a prize). Even so, it wouldn't change the fact that the best move would be to change doors.

If you're curious and want a definitive solution that would be sure to convince you (assuming some basic level of intelligence on your part, which I assume to be present), pm me and I'll send it to you.
