How about that baby carrots are not even young carrots, they are carrot sticks that have been rounded down.

Plus one on untucked shirts.

The hip hop dance move where they grab the brim of their cap and run their fingers across it.

That so many people believe the "Monte Hall" puzzle solution is correct.

Once you have only two choices,it's 50/50.

You don't gain an edge by changing your mind.

That's what gets me, people don't understand the concept of probability changes.

Under the description of the problem,it's cut and dried, but people say well imagine it's more doors ....well that's not the problem stated.

And it's not known if the game show host knows what the correct door is,and if he gives the same option to switch doors every time.

Everyone makes assumptions in the equation in order to come to the accepted answer.

The assumption is the host always opens an incorrect door, and always gives the choice to change your selection.

If this was stated in the question,it does make sense to change.

And that's the other thing,if you try to argue why the accepted answer is wrong, people lose their ****.

Well yeah, this is a key assumption. It's kind of implied in the question, but maybe not clear.

Exactly, that's why the answer isn't cut and dry.

Hey man, you should just be happy that the rest of the world charitably refers to it as the British Open and not the most-accurate Rainy Little Goat Island Open.

You made this same joke 40 posts ago. Also it is pedantic nittery to say someone is wrong saying The Open championship bc the organizers refer to it just as The Open. It is a championship, yes?

When I first ran into the problem, I was skeptical. So I wrote a simulation. Merely *writing* the simulation convinced me that switching is correct.

Here's the question. What is not clear?

Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?

Nobody laughed the first time so he tried again.

Thanks for pointing out the above - I was going to draw attention to the small c I used in championship but I felt that was going down the pedantic nittery rabbit hole...

Isn't, say, the Scottish Open also played in Britain? That also seems like a British championship. Hmm, maybe we should just call it by its actual name.

Id say the complaint is valid given this wording. the host knows what is behind the doors but it does not say that he always will follow this procedure and give you the option to switch. if I was the host then I just freeroll by only offering a switch when I knew he picked the car. of course his "once you get two choices its 50/50" conclusion is still laughable with this reasoning since its no longer a logic problem but just an abstract "what level is the host on"

also, the question doesn't specify whether you would prefer a goat or a car.

So we're arguing that when the host doesn't open a door and give you a chance to change your pick that you shouldn't change your pick then? ****ing brain trust up in here...
