A friend I've known for over 20 years told me today that he thinks the Cheers theme song is better than the Jeffersons theme song and that there is nothing I could ever say to change his mind.
I mean Jeffersons is probably better as a TV Show theme. But the Cheers theme song was actually a hit on the radio. So standalone it's at least arguably a better song.
Nothing will ever top the original Hawaii 5-0 theme song and title sequence, and I will stab you if you dispute that.
(for some reason you have to start at :15)
2nd best: Crime Story (Runaway by Del Shannon but so damn perfect as the theme song)
3rd place: Barretta (Don't do the crime if you can't do the time - keep your eye on the sparrow)
(for some reason no opening sequence with vocals seems to be available)
Honorable Mentions:
Good Times
Rockford Files
SWAT
(this was a huge hit)
All in the Family
Sanford & Son
Rawhide
TV theme songs really aren't what they used to be. I may spend the next 8 hours listening to old theme songs now.
