I guess closet doors.

One wheel went off the track, so I tried to fix it. Five minutes later, I'm sitting against the bed with both doors torn off completely, somehow ripping chunks out of my fingers and toes in the process.

Bleeding, bewildered.

Wouldn't the mode be even better?

the median is the better statistic, but that doesn't mean people who say "average" aren't actually using the average. they are only guilty of using an inferior measurement

Genuinely curious. Why are either of those statistics important in regards to the price of Super Bowl tickets?

Neither is important. As I said earlier, they need the mode.

Somebody may scared away from looking in to buying tickets if they hear average ticket prices are $4k, but there are actually tickets available for $500 and that mean price was brought up greatly by $200k suite tickets. Just like when a new company is pitching itself to a prospective city saying the average salary for employees will be $50k, but most employees will be making $25K a year, but the execs will be making $500k. Did you graduate middle school Johnny? Serious question, I only ask because I felt like an idiot having to type that out.

I didn't ask what the difference between them was, so you didn't have to type that out. Being worried about a fictional ticket searcher stopping their search when they read the average price of the ticket somewhere and the impact that would have is pretty idiotic though, and your reading comprehension is low, so continue with your feelings.

ETA: please explain what research you do when buying tickets for an event and how you go about it. You know, as if I were a middle school drop out.

I'm with Truant on this one, go figure. I can't imagine ever looking for the average of super bowl ticket prices. How on earth is that in any way relevant to an individual purchase decision?

Next time you are looking at neighborhoods to buy a house in, use the mean instead of the median.

Hey Tx,

It should be a clue that when you have to come up with several separate and irrelevant examples, like salaries for a company or purchasing real estate, rather than using the exact example provided in the specific question (because it doesn't explain the concept very well) the concept may not be relevant to that example.

I mean you unintentionally answered the question, those statistics are not important to a super bowl ticket price, but that was a lot of work to get there.

Use this info in the future, assuming you understand what the question is to begin with next time.

heh, yesterday I went into this building, two women were standing in front of the elevator and couldn't find the "up" button (it wasn't marked "up", just a plain stainless steel button hidden in a sea of fire department key holes etc). I stood behind them for about five seconds as they struggled, it was clear they weren't going to figure it out, so rather than just embarrass them by reaching in and pushing it or otherwise interacting with them, I just climbed up three flights of stairs.
