Doing some research, it seems they have gotten better and cut out most of the really bad stuff. Apple contracts this out to a company that doesn't really do baseball and it seems they were "over-fitting" the data. From a FanGraphs article two years ago - "If the screen displays that a hitter is 5-for-7 on Fridays against opposite-handed pitching in the sixth inning or later, you rightly say “yeah, that doesn’t sound like it matters.”
link So they were using extremely small sample sizes for specific batters and situations.
