OOT Sandwich lovers,

In an epic back-and-forth battle, Reuben just edged out pastrami for one slot. Cheesesteak easily rolled over breakfast sandwich for the other slot. In the end, it turns out OOT really likes meat and melted cheese sandwiches!



So it all comes down to this:

Voting Criteria
Here's the criteria for selecting the "best" sandwiches. Select it based on the best reasonably available version of that sandwich to you. Not the average or the best ever version, but the one that you'd go get if you thought to yourself “man, I’m really in the mood for an xyz sandwich today!”

Even if your standard/average sandwich is subway, don't vote based on subway (unless you really love it!). And don't vote based on the cheesesteak you had when visiting Philly or the pastrami sandwich at Katz’s when vacationing in NYC. Vote based on the good sandwich you'd go get when you want a good sandwich.

Average meat quality of a cheesesteak is so much better than the average reuben's meat quality.

Voted Reuben. Haven't been following the bracket until now, but in case this hasn't been mentioned: Seattle people, go to Murphy's in Wallingford and get the Reuben. Thank me later.

Without any research this seems completely wrong.

Cheap steak, that is edible, is much easier to come by than something as labor intensive as corned beef.

If it was between those 2 in the OP, I definitely vote Reuben. Very few Reubens look like that though.

Reubens have a higher ceiling but also a lower floor.

Probably will sit this one out.

At the beginning of this competition I felt the urge to make a Reuben, and I decided to hold off posting it until this moment came!

Asked the wholefoods deli to cut me some corned beef very thick.

Grilled the corned beef lightly and assembled the sauerkraut, thousand island, and swiss cheese on the pan.



Placed on rye bread (although my ideal is pumpernickel), and pressed on a panini press.

I do have to say while thick cut corned beef is really good, I think thinly sliced might be better.

I think it might go like this:

Thin sliced >> thick sliced >>>>>>>> medium sliced

The corned beef in the OP picture is going to result in a more complete flavor profile in each chew. With mine, you are definitely taking some big chews of mostly corned beef, which is great, but I don't think it is as great as all of the flavors of the sandwich.

Thin sliced is better. But very well done Larry.

Oh also, I did make my own thousand island for that sandwich, roughly following a serious eats recipe.

Wife is picking my up a reuben for lunch tomorrow. It's a Reno reuben, so not that great. But still great.

I spent way longer thinking on this than I should have. I think anyone can agree that the best reuben beats the best cheesesteak, but the worst cheesesteak is MUCH better than the worst reuben. Logically that means that cheesesteak should be better, on average, and that I should vote cheesesteak.

Screw logic though. Reuben.
