corollary: people spend their careers "faking it till they make it." making it is getting paid/promoted and they never stop faking it, they literally just act like they're in charge.

chiming in as a consumer of these services, I assume that the original poster was trying to point out that you have to be careful with psychiatrists, because they can tend to medicate first and ask questions later.
Just as surgeons tend to propose surgery as an initial solution, psychiatrists can be awful with over-medication. Probably the bad ones that the doctor above described.
also, I second the recommendation to see a licensed social worker. when it comes to therapy in general, be prepared to shop around. a personal recommendation is usually a good place to start.
