Sure - first year guys working for Spirit. But obviously I'm an old so that's not who I'm hanging out with.

The 2018 median annual commercial airline pilot salary is $130,059. Half of all pilots earn less than this amount and half earn more.

China offering $300K tax-free for experienced captains

Senior Captains at Delta earn $261K

And that was BEFORE the union negotiated a 30% bump by 2019.

I guess I never dreamed that pilots even COULD make that much; I always figured they topped out at 100Kish.

Not sure why we're comparing it to MDs; they make more than just about anyone (as they should).

Also these pilots I know who make $200k-ish, all have 15 to 20 years seniority and work for major airlines.

Now do the average of successful doctors or lawyers with 15-20 years experience. I'd be willing to bet it's a lot higher than $200k.

You realize that decent Facebook engineers with 5+ years of experience make like $400k right?

You know who should make more than doctors, lawyers, and pilots? TEACHERS.

LOL at the derail.

One thing popped into my head:

Re: women - the worst they can do is say no, and it's no big deal. Confidence is everything.

Carry on with the salary arguments....

Yeah, I work in this industry. These numbers get a little exaggerated.

1. You have to be pretty good to get $400k. It's usually more $200k - $300k

2. You work in Palo Alto and will spend on average $7K more a month just to afford the rent etc.

3. It's a turn and burn shop. You're going to hate yourself in a couple years.

I have end up with more net income and don't have to put up with Facebook's bs but technically I make "less."

That figure is only remotely true if you're supporting a decent sized family. I just moved from Redwood City and my rent was $2k.

Poetically on point and true.

Unfortunately, one thing I've realized is you can't really shortcut any of this stuff. The stuff you figure out as you get older, that was really the only way.

They say opportunity only knocks once, but it's not really true. I find this particularly with the stock market. Even though you missed a big money making play today doesn't mean you should fret, another one will come along soon. But be ready.

When a woman says, 'no way are we having sex tonight' or some variation of it, it probably means the opposite.

If you're young you should start saving for your retirement immediately. Your older self will thank you profusely.

Also, buy a house as soon as you can afford one. If you're young, look for a bargain fixer upper and do the work yourself over time. My buddy did that and now he has a house that he paid ~100k for that's easily worth 4 or 5 times that.

Finally, don't fall in love with people or things that don't love you back. It's horrible.

Old procedure - pull off enough to make a rectangle about 1.5 TP squares long and maybe 5 or 6 layers deep. Use once, fold in half the long way (but not diagonally). Use again.

Suzz, in the case that you are serious about knowing...... my wife has been an MD doctor for over 30 years. The majority of doctors would LOVE to make $200K. The average salary is skewed by surgeons and a few other specialties.

Honestly, if you youngsters take anything of value out of this thread.....start saving early is critical to life happiness. ("I don't need money to be happy" yada yada yada is BS)
