I think the LOL part of this is all of you not telling him to f*** off. His doucheyness should have been pretty easy to diffuse. As he's going for the first slice you tell him "hands off...we paid for this. If you want some then chip in some money next time." Even if he gets huffy about it an something like, "well excuse me for living...didn't know you guys were so cheap" you and everyone else there know that you're in the right. And you can always come back with, "cheap is always trying to steal everyone's food without ever paying for anything."
I seriously don't understand how anyone gets away with that type of behavior for very long. Any situation like that I've seen where somebody is getting out of line there's generally somebody to politely put them in their place...and then more sternly put them in their place if that becomes necessary.
A lot of these stealing (or not paying) type stories really could be handled this way and it's kind of weird to hear about guys who are "always" doing such things.

This is stealing. I don't really see it as stingy exactly. But it is certainly weird behavior.
