Craigslist, yes, some extreme stinginess going on there. This is only the 2nd time I've used it. The first time was for a hard drive, 25 bucks and the guy emails, calls for more specs, then drives to my house and hands over a 20.

This time I had a bunch of playstation crap that someone wanted me to sell and a tv. Listed at least 1/2 the price of anything comparable. Some kid emails and calls about 10 times over a 3 hour period to hold it for him, more pics, etc. "Sure, just come and get it, I'll show you it's all working fine". I figure he must live like an hour's drive away and wanted to be sure it's worth his time to get the stuff. He shows up this morning on his bike. It's Toronto. Turns out he lives like 2 blocks away from me but was too lazy and cheap to just come over. Asks for a lower price and gets it even though I felt like beating him with one of the legs of the drum set thing it has.

Someone called for the TV. Thirty dollars for a 5 year old 32". He says he's calling from Buffalo, NY, and wants me to hold it for him and will give me 20 bucks for it if I help him load it up. Jfc.

Never again. All future electonics go in the trash or to the sally ann. Not worth it to deal with this. Maybe I'm the stingy one for trying to get a buck out this stuff that it seems is essentially worthless I guess.

Craigslist is always bad. Guy offered 50 for a futon and gave me like 43 and only 35 was in paper money

I use to smoke pot with a friend in HS and usually when I asked for eye drops his response was iffy because last time he saw me put 2 drops in each eye when 1 was plenty. Guy watched me like a hawk when I dropped

you guys suck at craigslist

when selling, you've got to overprice the heck out of your items - this keeps the riff-raff from even bothering and will give you some wiggle room to cut a deal with someone who will actually have real money

don't bother even trying to negotiate with people who email you with with a lowball offer, not worth the time and they'll more likely than not show up with less money than the price you agreed on

it's nice when someone sees the ad you posted for 40% more than you hope to get out of whatever it was and emails you that they'll take it sight unseen and when is a good time to pick it up

i just sold a CRT monitor for $200 (listed on craigslist for $200) that i bought 4 years ago for $140 and a spinning bike for $350 (listed on craigslist for $350) that i paid $250 for

Used to work for a place where a group of us would go out to dinner afterwards occasionally. There was one guy (the boss no less) who wouldn't order anything, he would literally pick off of other peoples plate to avoid having to pay anything. He had no problem saying "can I have some of those fries" or "wow, that's a huge serving there, you aren't going to mind if I take a little do you?".

I was astounded by this and thought he must have forgotten his wallet or something and been embarrassed but hungry. I asked another coworker and he said it was standard. I found this annoying but he ended up truly pissing me off once when we were out together.

We had all gone to a Mexican restaurant, and he did the same old same old "can I have a few of your nachos" deal. Everyone was leaving and he and I were the only two people left. He didn't put in a cent towards the meal of course because he didn't order anything. I had noticed in the past he was always the last to leave but he would often be waiting for doggie bags because he would pretty much take anything home that others left and didn't take for themselves.

I was walking out and realized I had left my cell phone on the table so I started walking back, when I saw him open the bill with the money we had left in and take some out. He literally took some of the waitresses tip for himself. I was in shock, and was incredibly pissed. I actually called him out on it, and said "that was for the waitress". He then claimed he had thrown some money for tip but then realized he needed it for gas so he was just taking his own money back.

The kid just picked up the rest, he owed 30, says, "I only have 28". When I say no he pulls out another 20, "You only have 28 that became 40"?

kk, you may be right, but there is a bit of stinginess in having stuff hanging around that you want to get rid of but want to wait, repost, etc. until you get that last five dollars on a 50 dollar item.

One of my best friends growing up and through highschool (who I haven't seen in about two years, thankfully) is the stingiest guy I know.

One shining example of his stinginess includes ordering beverages at restaurants. When the waitress comes around and takes drink orders he would always order a water. However, about halfway through the meal he would order a soda. This happened everytime we were out. When asked about it, he said, "if I order the soda after the initial drink order she probably won't put it on my check."

It actually worked. I guess he does.

Same guy, maybe not stingy, but douche:

His family was moving from a rental house to another rental house (they were lucky enough to sell their house at the peak of the market, rent for a couple years, and buy a gigantic house for about the same price). This guy asked me and another friend if he wouldn't mind us helping his family move some stuff. We show up and the friend is nowhere to be seen. He was out of state skiing and basically got us to do free moving labor. We stuck around for a couple hours and left. his family tried to get us to stay by saying they would buy us lunch of the dollar menu of mcdonalds. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree I guess.

pro way to do this is to order a water, drink it, then put a little bit of coke in the cup so when someone comes around to refill it theyre like "oh that guy was drinking coke"

Renting a place without a washing machine? Put your clothes in the tub, cover them in detergent and swirl em around while you take a shower.

Pretty standard one here. Hungry but don't have any money? Go to a fast food joint, pick a bill out the the garbage or off the ground outside and go inside claiming they messed up your order etc. No arguing is standard policy at most places. I had a friend try this once however at a KFC. Walked in claimed he only got 12 / 15 pieces of his chicken when he came through the drive through. The girl behind the counter responded by telling him they didn't have a drive through.

Local movie theater offer free refills on popcorn or soda? Buy it once and reuse it every time you go. If they mark the bottom with a mark (One free refill), use nail polish remover to remove it. Alternatively if you don't feel like paying for even the one. Go to the garbage can outside of the individual screen rooms and grab a bag and cup out of there. Go to the bathroom, rinse it all out and wash it off. Then go get your free refill.

You can collude with 2 like minded friends and only order 2 tickets for all three of you to see a film. First two go in with tickets past the ticket checker. One friend comes out with both tickets and give the friend who is not already in the other ticket.

This thread is simultaneously great (because of the stingy stories) and the worst (nittery/arguments about tipping and stealing)

I think the best posts are those from the two or three guys who read "strangest" instead of "stingiest." The booger story had be literally LOL-ing for like five minutes.

Like tonight, we needed some giftbags for some last minute gifts for my cousins/other various family members so I paid for two bags and just gently placed two other gift bags along with the two I scanned onto the scale. The scale had no clue.

Bags were 3.00 each, so it was a total savings of 6 dollars. Ill sleep well tonight.
This is just straight up stealing.

Stingy or not stingy?

A. We cut the "Paw points" off our litter boxes because if you collect enough of them (20 boxes worth) and enter in the codes online they'll send you a coupon for a free box.

B. I roll up our toothpaste tubes tight to get that extra 10-15% of toothpaste out of them.
