Tiger is a tightwad ******* to tip $10 on $85 and you all know it. I don't support the waitress crying about it, but the man needs to leave $15 at a minimum and $20 would be more like it, given that his net worth is roughly the same as some third world countries.

Leaving a 23.5% tip on a meal that's under $100 hardly qualifies as "blowing" a fortune.

But I'll tell you what does qualify as blowing. Your post. It blows.

I believe TD Bank has free coin counters in their branches. You don't even need to have an account. I used them a year or so ago, so if nothing changed since then, find a TD Bank near you for coins.

Expecting Tiger to tip more because he has money makes me hate the people who think like this. In a past job, popular statements would include "I just got a call from Mr. Whatever, and he was looking for his $124 reimbursement. He probably makes that in 2 hours. He can't wait for this money?"

Put me on tilt.

I have to admit I did not do the math and I was unaware of what % was considered stingy for a tip. Also how do you know the service was good?

His net worth is irrelevant. His net worth is irrelevant. His net worth is irrelevant.

Just because the guy is worth whatever amount he's worth, doesn't mean he needs to tip some predetermined amount.

Let's say the guy she served wasn't Tiger Woods. Does she still cry because of the terrible tip? Why does the guy's worth justify her thinking he needs to leave a certain tip amount?

Think long and hard about your answers. I know you'll need a lot of time to process this anyway, but take that amount of time, and then add some more.

That is an assumption, but given that the owner told everyone some golf pros have reservations I assume service/food was probably at least worthy of the minimum tip that night. And since TW would be seated in her section I assume she is one of the better waitresses at that establishment. Either that or the owner was aware TW tips poorly and that the waitress would get her expectations blown out of the water and he just wanted to see her reaction.

The crying is never justified but you do understand he tipped less than any reasonable person should have in this situation, right?

Yeah, the tip was less than a standard tip, but there could have been a ton of reasons for it.

It's not like he tipped 2% or something, he tipped about 12-13%, depending on how much tax we're talking about. I live in PA, so tax is 6% in most places. a $10 tip on an $80 bill is 12.5%.

If it wasn't some guy who she knew was a millionaire, would she have cried over the tip?

I deleted that post because I figured within 1 min some ****** would counter with something stupid suggesting I misinterpreted the original post. Swiitch is making a stupid assumption.

Also, everyone needs to cut it out with the "take a deep breath" and "calm down" crap on here. I don't imagine anyone on here is getting upset IRL at stuff.

Not being a complete ****ing mongoloid I can type in an angry way without actually being angry. I guess it's hard to comprehend that if you're missing chromosomes.

loooooool.

First, did you miss the part of my post where I said it was lame for the waitress to cry about this? My words to her would be STFU and get over it.

Now, RE: the net worth thing. I don't expect Tiger to tip significantly more than a normal person just because he's rich. But for someone of his monumental wealth to actually stiff the waitress with an 11-ish percent tip is basically unforgivable unless she poured spaghetti in his lap or something. If it's common knowledge that you're worth roughly $1 billion dollars, tipping less than 15% is lolbad.

Obviously it's Gary telling you this story later, right? Just curious what Gary's attitude was when telling it. Was he lol laughing about how ******ed that woman is, or was he more steamed/upset?

Expert play by Gary's wife would have been to engage in a placating haggling session over the price of said chicken and then at the last minute say "nah, forget about it."

Live in Orlando, have heard numerous stories of Tiger being the worst tipper at restaurants such as Perkins where he met the ugliest mistress... who now works at Gators Dockside(lol)

Last edited by tooners; 07-19-2010 at 06:09 PM. Reason: ok not the worst tipper, but not a good one

Most people figure out the tip based on the pre-tax cost of the bill. Some even subtract the cost of any alcohol on the bill and tip on that at a reduced rate.

But it's ok, when I made my post with the $100 comparison, I fully expected some moran to come in and talk about how the utility of $100 is different for the guy with almost no money and the billionaire. When it didn't happen, I was pleasantly surprised.

Now, I get some other moran telling me that the tax rate doesn't affect the level of a tip, but on a $85 bill, there would be some level of tax, no? But yeah, it's fine and dandy to say that it's a stupid assumption. Maybe the stupid assumption is that the $85 was the cost of the bill without any tax?

I used to think I was a stingy tipper because I'd generally tip like 15-18% but I based it on the post-tax bill and never discounted for wine.

Then I learned on 2p2 that you tip 20% based on pre-tax total so I felt better about myself.

Also am I in the minority in that I basically tip 15-20% or like nothing at all? I guess I never really have so-so service, or if I do, I give only 15%. But if I have downright bad service I get upset and leave nothing (I know they have to pay out 3% so really I'm tipping -3% but I don't give a ****).

Is it common to tip like 5-15%? My tips are either 100%, 75%, or 0%.
