King,
You're clearly the douche in that story. Weddings are really stressful and expensive and there are usually lots of arguments about money/who's coming/etc between bride/groom/families. Starting an argument over something really petty like whether your wife gets to go to dinner with them one night is really douchey.

This is beyond stingy, it's theft.

More likely is that they are on to the cab driver "I don't have any change" scam.

Cabbies pull this all the time trying to weasel bigger tips.

I've done this before with ziplock freezer bags and more people should do it. Not because of the cost savings (though that is a benefit) but because it's a simple way to reduce trash. I also bring my own shopping bag most of the time at the grocery store, they give me a penny! Obv, the penny is not why I do that.

This actually happened to the owner of our company, not to me, but a couple of years ago, she got a call from a customer that was just furious that his premium had increased. He was already yelling when she picked up the phone, ranting about how he'd been with the company for so long and never had a claim and what was this bull**** increase in premium. Customers' rates can go up for all kinds of reasons, everything from a general rate increase to moving, divorce, bankruptcy etc, so my boss tried to placate him while she pulled up his policy and his most recent bill to see what was going on.

His premium, which he paid quarterly, had increased by 5 cents per month. So his bill was 15 cents higher than normal.

Weddings are hard, you are paying for loads of stuff and you have to draw the line somewhere, and no matter where you do, you'll piss someone off. Just suck it up and dont be a dick to someone you are supposed to be friends with.

You guys are funny. Bro's before hoes, wife be damned huh? Lol

What you say about weddings is true but when you 'draw the line' with my old lady over a crappy dinner, then I had to make my own choice. He didn't pay btw, his sister did (parents long dead) & I would have reimbursed her in a second if it really was about the money. But pride would never let anyone actually admit that. Instead they'll just make an awkward request & expect everyone to follow it cuz we were friends since grade-school. No thanks..

I can see why a principal would be lonely, but not rich.

what is wrong with you? I mean, obviously he didn't invite your wife because of expense. Demanding an invitation for someone who isn't invited is rude, and refusing to go and rubbing their nose in it is psychotic.

I work at a shop where we get tipped in a jar; there was a customer who didn't have 15 cents so he decided to take it from my tip jar as I am watching him, he didn't even bother asking

bring bolivian coins to peru and try to pay at a restaurant with them..

5 boliviano coin is worth less than a dollar, 5 soles in peru is nearly $2, lol, they look identical.

I have a friend I go the Seahawks game with, we both have season tickets. A few years ago, at the first game, he asked me to buy him a beer, I told him sure no problem just get me the next game. Well the rest of the season, he didn't buy one beer because he didn't want to pay me back lol...

I thought "sure, you can get me next time." was just a figure of speech. Unless you asked him to get you a beer the next game and he had money but wouldn't do it then you're just both kind of stingy.

Now of course she could have opted out and not go, but not to be included in the invite to start with is not rite imo.

None of what you are saying here makes any difference at all as to why she or you should be particularly bothered if you actually went to this. You can think he's a nit/douche for declining her after you asked to have her included. But to then not go yourself after that is just weird.

What YOU think should be one of the exceptions or not really doesn't matter. It's his dinner. He thought this was fine. You are creating way more drama than necessary by not going.

And again..it still doesn't address why your wife would hold you responsible or have any issue with you if you went.

This isn't "bros before hoes...wife be damned" at all. You aren't damning your wife in the least. She wasn't invited to this thing because they have their own rules for it for whatever reason. But to be all drama-bitch about it like you were and simply not show up is really inappropriate.

You are digging a pretty big hole here. At the start I thought you were equal on the doucheyness scale as the guy who insisted she couldn't come. But now I think you are running away in a landslide. "Bros before hoes?" Really?

I agree that this is quickly turning into a case of "wtf is the matter with you?"

I probably wouldn't remain friends with someone like that at all. Even if he's super-poor I just don't think there's an excuse for behavior like that. I mean..he's ASKING you to buy him a beer is already silly (you're supposed to offer first). Him never going back to the concession stand knowing full well he owes you one is just ridiculous.

I generally don't even say things like "get me next time" or anything like that. You either are the type of person to know when such a thing is called for or you don't. If I buy the first round and you don't even make an effort at all when the second round comes around then you pretty much have lost my respect (unless there's some reasonable excuse like hitting the bathroom when everyone decides super quickly to hit up the 2nd round or something like that).

I still feel weird a lot when I don't pay someone for something that I know they find trivial. Like if someone bought me a beer and I didn't have time to buy them one that night, I'd feel weird with it hanging. heh.

I've been to a few weddings where the bridal party gets more free booze than the regular guests. I'm surprised a couple people were shocked by this.
