Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

My mother works in the corporate offices of a dairy company. Occasionally the company gives out coupons to the employees for free cartons of ice cream, encouraging the employees to give them to friends and family.

So my mom gives out some of the coupons to the extended family as usual. At this time, she was also up for a huuuge promotion at work... something the family was aware of.

That next week, my mom just happened to be scanning a list of customer complaints doing some quality control stuff and she saw my aunt's name (who shares the same last name with us... not a common last name in this area in the least bit) on the list. She had written a customer complaint about the carton of ice cream she got for free via my mother and was asking for a refund of the purchase price. My aunt does this **** all the time (buys something, eats/uses it, then makes a customer complaint to get it for free), but this was just on a whole new level as it put my mom at a bit of risk... especially considering the promotion coming up. Oh that and she didn't actually pay for it.

My mother wanted to set things on fire and quickly handled the "customer" complaint herself.

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

When I was a sophmore in HS, I worked at an ice creme place at some fairs. Worked like 12 hour days, and made about $10 an hour. Anyways, some old lady wanted ice creme with hot fudge, which is considered a sunday.

When I charged her 50 cents more for the hot fudge she started yelling and didn't buy it. I then got to eat it which kicked ass.

A friend (who doesn't really ever go out to bars or anything) was at my poker table, and when he went to the bar to get some drinks he asked if anyone else wanted any. Someone asks for a beer, and when said friend came back he tried to take the money for the beer from the guys stack, without saying anything. Entire table stared at him in surprise

When we're about to run out of toilet paper, a roommate of mine hides the remaining toilet paper as well as "his" napkins, paper towels, or anything else you could use.

I noticed a few months back that the same person rolls up his socks and stores them in the original crappy disposable bags that they come in from wall-mart. I have no doubt in my mind that this is his way of organizing it to know if he's missing a sock so he can tear the house apart looking for it.

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

My friend's ex-business partner was pretty bad. He flew on the anniversary of 9-11 on the hope that flights would be cheaper that way, he pre-paid for 30 sandwiches because he wanted a deal from the mom and pop restaurant on he corner, and the company paid for my friends cellphone as a company expense and even though my friend did ~100% of the income generating for the business he circled a few personal calls that amounted to under $10 and left the phone bill on his desk.

------------

One of the breakfast places downstairs got into a fight with a customer over the size of a tea he could have with his breakfast combo. You are suppose to get a small drink but the guy picked up a large and since you get a tea bag the only real difference is the amount of hot water yet this led to a major confrontation.

------------

A women wanted to pay for two subs with a combination of USD and CAD because she didn't have enough CAD but didn't want to use all USD because the exchange rate was not as good as at the bank.

-----------

Someone else I use to know made way over $100k yet lived in a mold infested apartment that was eventually condemned, would go to clubs 3-4 hours before anyone else to avoid cover, and drank from a bottle to avoid paying club prices for drinks.

yeah this is actually completely standard at cash bar weddings from what I've seen...

A guy I know gives blood just to get the free shirts. He says he doesn't like shopping so that's how he gets a lot of his wardrobe.

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

one of the first times I smoked weed with the pig of a guy (chinese sign).. he smokes a bowl.... and when its gone, he keeps hitting the res in my pipe. like keeps chugging along.. chugging along... getting as much as he can get...with clouds and clouds of smoke... I catch on and tell him to knock it off

now i exclusively smoke hash out of my pipe.. so theres some pretty good potent hits in there...

another time he waits in my car while i go pick up some keys... I hurry back to my car about 15 seconds later cuz i have a funny feeling.. I catch him already packing a bowl of my hash.. and give him a good punch in the ribs as he is smoking.. and call him a ****ing pig bastard

another time he asks to borrow my pipe...I ask why and he says cuz he has a little nug to smoke..i give him the pipe and he starts smoking my rez again.. chugging along.. chugging along.. i'm like wtf!?! "you really did have a little bowl?" "yes!" the the ******* says...

so he does **** like this quite often so now i kinda know to look for it

another day he asks to borrow my pipe "cuz i have a little bowl"
I heard this one before and says no.. "i know what your ****ing up to."
and he says "dang.. i know"

last incident he asks to use my pipe in front of trader joes when he has his own pipe and his own weed.. i know hes just going to go for the rez after so i says no..

very last incident we buy a gram of weed and split it.. I tell the sob not to ask me for any weed after he runs out since we both have the same amount and I know that hes going to finish it all within a few hours.. I'm with him the next day and I still have a lot left and make sure to tell his has... "DON'T ****ING ASK ME FOR ANY" he responds with "ok.. I won't.. you don't have to worry"

sure enough... "can i have just a little hit".. i say no .. **** YOU... you know what his reply was??!

"YOUR SO STINGY"

I knew a guy in high school that would put vodka in for bongwater, then drink it afterwards to get the maximum high. Completely foul. Glad I don't hang with him anymore.

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

My brother-in-law and I once worked at the corporate offices of a televangelist. He and I were the ones to make the daily mail pickup at the local post office (they required two people to go as a theft deterrent, as people would regularly mail in cash).

Anyway, every morning on the mail run, he'd stop at a local convenience store/gas station to purchase 2 Little Debbie snack cakes. They were $0.25 each. The sales tax in our area was such that if he bought 1, there was no tax. However, purchasing 2 meant the tax was enough to round up to a penny, making the total $0.51. Not only would he stand in line twice, buying them one at a time, he would pay for both with a credit card, as he made 1% on purchases.

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

I was in a bridal party when this problem with the rehearsal dinner came up. A day or so before the meal, the groom who was one of my best friends & knew since we were young kids, informed me that dinner was for bridal party only and significant others were not invited. I was the only married member of the party & had been married for about 18 months at this point & was not going to go without her. Also, the groom was in MY bridal party & attended our rehearsal dinner. He did attend alone however cuz his gf at the time (now fiancé at the time of this story) had a previous engagement but she was invited.

So I made him aware that if my wife could not attend, I would not be able to go. He repeated that it was for the bridal party only so I didn't go. The wedding was a few days after and he didn't say 2 words to me all day. A few days a after the wedding he came by my house saying I broke wedding etiquette for not honoring his request. At the time I didn't know if this was true (it turns out its not) but I told him I didn't care and for $50 he shouldn't have cared either.

We have hardly spoken since. This was about 8 years ago...

My second year of college I lived in a house with 7 people. At first 5 of us agreed to share food. I don't remember exactly how the conversation went (it was 24 years ago) but one guy was eating a lot in the middle of the night and he just flatly stated that he was eating as much as possible to maximize his return.

I've emailed a few companies that manufacture products that I use for work asking for free shirts and I've received a bunch. (and no, I wasn't the guy maximizing the food per $ in the story above.)

There's no pleasure in this. The woman is "getting back" at the store by bringing it back and getting money in return.

I worked at a Texas Roadhouse in a military town. A lot of the people on sundays, after church would order water with a lot of lemons. Cleaning off the tables I'd find they had used all the sugars as well. They were making their own "lemonade." Rather than pay for the kinds we had.

I knew someone who drank individual milk goblet for coffee when passing near a café, without ordering anything. Or when they had milk carton, he would ask for water and fill it with milk afterwards, not caring if it was at room temperature. And in the face of all the customers.

i was a bartender and at teh end of the night a guy asked me to pour the liquor from the spill mat into a glass so he could drink it. it was a college-ish bar so the spill mat had all sorts of crap in it from various shooters like baileys. vodka, coke, gin, everything. he almost puked.

I thought my Dad was wacky for driving down the block and waiting to turn left if he saw a gas-station on the other side that was 1 cent cheaper. But some of these stories are just incredible.

Some of them I view as more douchey/psychotic and unethical than "stingy" though. I understand including them in this thread as opposed to just a general 'douchey behavior' thread. But trying to get refunds on things you never paid for or taking out the good fruit and then returning the unused portion I would never initially think of as being stingy really. That seems way too mild a term for that type of unethical behavior.

The guy who gets in line twice to pay for his Little Debbies on his credit card and save a penny cracked me up and also probably wins the actual "stingy" award for me without crossing over into completely inappropriate behavior (stupid and douchey...but not completely unethical like some of the other stories).

stingiest thing i've done personally:

car takes 91 octane gas and all that's sold here usually is 89 or 93, so sometimes i've been known to fill tank with half and half

with any luck henry17 will be waiting in line behind me
