Well my sympathy ratios just went way up. I'm sure I won't laugh at any homeless people anymore.

If you read a lot of this thread it is painfully obvious that these people have serious mental problems. I know making fun of people with mental problems is always fun and totally normal but...

I offered to cover half the bill but he aggressively insisted to pay. My friend is both super nice and owes me favors so for our 12 person group he got us a $20/head credit and got us a flight of special off menu apps while our group arrived (that in itself was a full meal). This is a place where you get blue cheese foam with your ribeye and plating looks like a reality show, so super reasonable deal my friend got us.

Only ten people showed up and the bill came to under $400 and that’s with 3 courses that included splitting every dessert and drinks. When the bill arrived I expected him to be ecstatic that it wasn’t $1000 but instead he nagged the waitress to ask the chef because “there was supposed to be help with the bill”.

He then only tipped on the discounted amount. This guy already made his millions pre housing crash so it’s just a frugal thing but I was really embarrassed and shipped the waitress some cash behind the scenes.

Now if someone hasn’t been in the restaurant business, a lot of this is forgivable but he had opened and closed several restaurants as side projects over the years so I couldn’t understand how he was thinking for the bill.
Man this story pissed me off. I hope that guy gets cancer of the everything.

Yes, significant interest in any and all new Papa Double Down stories. The previous ones were tremendous.

Many years ago our boss paid for us to go to an all inclusive resort in Cancun. I was broke as a joke at a time but scraped up some cash to go clubbing and what not but it was not much.

On our first day I saw all these timeshare booths around town, you gave them like a $20 good faith deposit and they give you a free meal and various amounts of cash for doing the tour. YOu get your $20 back when you showed up to take tour. Eureka, a chance for some cash but It was couples only. A work friend and I said we would pretend to be a couple and collect the $150 prize.

Well before we signed up I found one booth that would pitch single men and the payout was $125 so I signed up. Show up at 7am the next morning, they buy me breakfast, I take a one hours or so tour and then I literally had to make every excuse in the book and say no over and over and over.

They were very aggressive but in a persistent professional way, not hard and rude though. FInally after 2 guys tried to pound me into credit card submission for over an additional hour(I had very little line available but didnt want to use that excuse in fear they would not pay out)
they sent in the closer.

None other than former Dallas Cowboy Superbowl kicker and accused child molester Rafael Septien

He gave me some more speil and then finally got tired of it all. They paid me in pesos which at the time was worth less than the $125 promised. I argued about it and even had one of the salesman legit try to help me get US dollars.
Wasted nearly another hour shuffling around departments, waiting and trying to get DOLLAS but in the end they basically said GTFO

Just remembered one from about 5 years ago. I worked for a small office and it was snowing pretty hard. Most of us called in due to the weather, and only one girl who lived less than a mile away went in along with the office manager. After about 45 minutes, the office manager, who also lived close, said that she decided to close the office and that my coworker could leave and would be paid for the rest of the day.

The next day, the coworker sent an email to the boss saying she wanted to be paid for the day PLUS the 45 minutes she worked, because it wasn't fair if she wasn't since she worked part of the day. The boss said she appreciated her coming in but that she couldn't pay her for the extra 45 minutes.

Coworker pitched a big enough fit that nobody got paid for the day. The company literally changed the policy to not pay anyone due to being out due to a storm even if the office closed. We all got an email notifiying us of their decision to not pay anyone and the new policy going forward. Everyone knew why this happened and when someone called her out on it she actually said she would rather get paid for only 45 minutes than the full day instead of people getting paid for the full day who didn't work at all.

We'd probably have a lot less of it if every school and work environment in America weren't designed to make the students/employees as miserable as humanly possible.

Guy probably didn't have anything but hundreds and didn't want to break one.

A few years ago I was working in a business development center. THe city offers reduced rent for small biz startups and around 30 different companies were in this bldg.

During Christmas season management threw a party and asked every office to bring one side dish and they would take care of all the meats and drinks.

There ended up being an overabundance of food, lots of leftovers like pies, salads deserts, etc that we didnt even open. Many people just went to winndixie or walmart rather than actually make something The main lady in charge said she would take leftovers to the homeless shelter on her way home.

Later in the day after we had finished that particular office space where the party was held was left open. I saw dude from another office who bought a pie sneak in and take it back. He looked around to make sure no one was looking but I saw his stingy pie taking back ass

Probably brought it to another party hahah. Pie regifting.

I went to my 10-year HS reunion, which had no free drinks, and very minimal apps (we paid class dues every year and had no 5-year, so where did our dues go?). The 35-year HS reunion in the next banquet room looked like a hell of a lot more fun (and had free champagne/beer/wine), so I crashed that, got my justified drink on, and got in all their group photos as well (most there thought it was funny). Yes, I am that shameless.

That doesn't seem unusual to me. Maybe he made it and it was in his glass pie plate. Not sure homeless shelters can even take random food donations like that; the rest of the food probably got wasted.

I went to my 20 year reunion and the venue was the stingyiest caterers ive ever seen.
We had over 75 classmates with their significant others at $100 per person, the room was booked for the night and was to include a meal and drinks.

No free booze, and only one bartender who acted like he didn't like his job.

The food was almost two hours late, getting cold and was only chicken, green beans and tea.

As soon as we started eating the waitresses announced we had a half hour to eat.

After that they started gathering up everything and let the general public in,as this was a section of a restaurant.

I did a little math and figured over 12k in ticket sales.

For that we got three hours and a cheap cold meal.

God, I hope the reunion committee stole the money, I'd hate to think we got screwed that hard.

I'll help you out.

My friend and I used to drive around at 47 MPH because that's the speed at which his car got the best mileage.

One time we washed his car with a gas station squeegie. The owner yelled at us when we were like 3/4 done but he didn't come out so we finished anyway.

One time I fell asleep on the shuttle bus from one college to another. I woke up just as we left my destination, and convinced the bus driver to let me off kind of in yhe middle of nowhere. I was going to take the public bus back to campus but realized I was short 60 cents. So I walked around, looking for pay phones, and then searching the ground around them hoping to find dimes that people had dropped and not bothered to pick up.
