A lot of stuff like this is pretty standard for broke-ass teenagers, I think. There's a huge difference between filling a plastic water cup up w/ Sprite when you 15, and doing the same when you're 30.

About 8 years ago my friends and I were at a bar that had $1 shots. I had a few quarters in my pocket so I paid for a shot in quarters and they still give me **** about it today. I can understand if I had paid in pennies or nickels, or if I had paid in quarters for a $5 drink. But it was just 4 freaking quarters!

If you are a legit sommelier you are living/working in the wrong place, waiting tables. Resorts down here pay big $ for sommeliers. As long as they are legit.

If this was Barcade, or a similar establishment, this belongs in POTY consideration.

If they even have so much as a pool table it's still super lol.

I always ask for no ice, and it's certainly not because I'm stingy. It's because ice in soda is generally horrible.
I almost always ask for no ice and its not because i want an extra 50ml of soda

Is it considered stingy to plan which movie to go to with the intent of seeing another one without paying right after, like actually doing the math with the start times and durations?

Pretty standard. In high school, senior year, we were allowed to leave for lunch. Everyone would hit up the local fast food joints, ask for a cup of water, and then fill it up with soda at the fountains.

stingy would be buying a matinee ticket and coming back for a prime time showing, or getting someone with a student discount to buy you a ticket or something.

what you describe is just stealing.

Companies can be required to collect sales tax only in states where they have a physical presence.

But you are supposed to just send it in to the state if it wasn't collected by the vendor.

i think even this could be considered stealing.

stingy would be sneaking in your own food/drink, as described earlier in the thread.

I won't drink soda without ice. If I order a coke at a bar and they bring it but then say they have no ice I won't take it.

wow badass.

The amount of ice people put in drinks is stupid. No need to put in so much ice that the cup would still have ice in it after sitting in 100 degree heat for an hour.

The funny thing is I almost guarantee you that theater management would prefer you "steal" a second movie than sneak food in. Concessions are where they make their money, hence the absurdly inflated prices.

fail. How do so many people itt not know the difference between theft and stinginess?

Stingy is peeling the PLU# code stickers off the bananas so when they're weighed you aren't charged for the weight of the stickers.

What about peeling the bananas so that you don't have to pay for the peel that you won't be using anyhow? That is, of course, assuming that you're not a prop guy for a '50s era sitcom based on physical comedy.

you're probably right. if the situation was: i'll steal this movie rather than pay for it OR i'll bring food in rather than pay for it, you're probably right.

but for me personally (and i suspect most people), if i was going to "steal" a movie, it's also one that i would pay for, so the theater really is losing money if i don't pay for the 2nd movie. if i wasn't able to sneak food in (which i don't really do), i would NOT buy food there as it's so overpriced. food/drink is nice to have if i can get it cheap, but not worth paying their prices for. so they're not losing any money if i can bring food in. a movie is worth the $10 to me; a soda/popcorn is not worth the $5 each it would cost me.

yes, i realize that argument is the same reason people think pirating music/movies is okay ("i wouldn't pay for it anyways!"). but i think i've bought food/drink in the theater maybe 2 or 3 times ever, and i've snuck food in 0 times and drinks in maybe 5 times (and mostly water). i once watched 2 movies using 1 ticket when i was a kid cause all my friends wanted to do it, felt guilty about it, and haven't done it since.

I don't see anything wrong with pre-peeling. As long as you discard the peel yourself in an orderly fashion. That would be super-stingy behavior. But not stealing.

I had a friend who wanted to do this when we were about 12, and I felt so bad about it before even doing it that I just took off and played in the arcade for a while as he watched the movie.

I guess I kinda stole from them anyhow since I was playing pinball and point credits are trivially easy to rack up over time if you don't suck (assuming that you get some match credits as well over time).

I have a great deal of personal experience in this, and for the most part, it's true, especially for new movies. Theatres get a larger % of the ticket sale for longer run movies, which encourages them to keep a movie on screen for longer, new releases the theatre gets a ridiculously low cut from the studio.

upper management also reviews concession sales based on ticket sales, so if the per ticket concession sales go up as a result of people sneaking in, but then buying food, you better believe that would prefer this, as it makes them look better on paper.

Well, I do think most people that see a "free" second movie tend to see whatever happens to be conveniently starting when the movie they paid for gets out. So it very often will be something they wouldn't normally pay for, but they have time to kill or w/e. My ex used to do this a lot, would wind up seeing some excruciatingly bad stuff just for the hell of it.

In contrast, I would bet that most people who sneak food in are not like you, and will pay inflated prices for snacks if they have to. On the whole, theaters lose way way way more $ on food sneakage than on 2nd movieing, although who cares and why I'm posting about this multiple times I have no idea.

There was a bagel place across the parking lot from this pizzeria where I worked for this tight middle-aged Italian dude. He yelled at me once for buying a bagel and buttering it with at our restaurant. He thought I should've had it buttered at the bagel place. He squeeked when he walked.
