my mom saves milk bags and cuts off the tops so she doesn't have to buy as many sandwich bags.

I lived in Summit County over the winter to snowboard. I found a roommate once I moved out there after staying with a buddy a few weeks. Another friend of mine was in a similar situation a month later and I let him crash in the loft at our house a few times. My roommate (house owner) said he couldn't let him stay there because of the wear and tear he'd cause on the carpet. rofl

I was at my grandfather's house one day and opened the freezer looking for ice. I saw the freezer was packed with like 10 cartons of orange juice. Now, my grandfather is notoriously cheap so I figured there was a good sale and he just stocked up. Nothing wrong with that right?

So I say, "Hey, must have been a good OJ sale huh?". He says, "Nope, they're all filled with water. I'm just using them to take up space so the compressor cycles less."

One of the groomsman was going and getting non-free hard(er) drinks (for free), and then giving them to his girlfriend, so she wouldn't have to pay.

I feel like he was taking advantage of the bride and groom's good nature (or family's), when she could have just drank for free since they did offer partially open bar.

Seems douchey....yes or no?
Eh, not really that douchey. Its kind of understood that SO's of the bridal party enjoy some perks as well. Traditionally they are invited to the rehearsal dinners, after-parties etc. I've even seen some where they get into the limo with everyone after the wedding and go hang out somewhere else besides the cocktail hour.

Nothing. That has no outside visibility so it isn't even top 40%.

oh I have that way beat. my ex gf's mother finds overripe fruit at the store, takes it home and removes all the good parts, then drives back with the rotten parts and demands her money back. she cycles stores so she can do this on a regular basis.

the funniest part was when the ex (also pretty cheap) told me about this, it was in the context of "oh moms so kooky," like it was a charming eccentricity, and not utterly pathological behavior. I think my horrified response changed her mind about that though.

I've got a story fueled by cheapness of both parties in a situation.

I use to work at a Mexican restaurant that did call in orders where you'd pull up to the side of the building, and a server would bring it out. There was a guy that would call in an order every Sunday. He'd drive up wearing cut off jean shorts, a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off, and have an open tall boy of Keystone Light in his hand. The guy never tipped.

Well, my buddy, tired of serving this guy and not getting tipped, decided to call the cops and report the dude for driving with an open container of alcohol. He gave the cops a description of the guy, his car, and license plate number. Stayed on the line with the cops until they pulled the guy over.

I have no doubt that my buddy wouldn't have called the cops on the guy if he tipped.

There has to be something legitimately wrong with people like this. They must feel pleasure by doing this or something. It simply doesn't make any sense why you would waste so much time and humiliation to save a couple dollars.

I was visiting a friend who lived a 6 hour drive away, and the day before I was going to leave, he asked me to pick up a $700 laptop for him at the store and said he'd pay me back when I got there. He wanted to do this to save the $14 shipping. I declined, so he waited a month to get his dad to do it on a visit.

oh yeah, I don't think it's actually about the money. she probably spends the savings on gas. it's about the pleasure she derives from getting something for nothing. truly bizarre-she's a pretty nice woman otherwise afaik.

I am not sure if this counts, but several people I knew used to bring half bottles of vodka into expensive bars or clubs and just mix it into their drinks. I thought that was pretty cheap but they were students. Girls especially did this but could be more blatant about it. A bottle of 'evian' in the purse. Yeah thats smirnoff.

For some reason this doesn't seem cheap to me at all. I've never even thought of doing this, and likely never will but it does actually make a little sense to me.

That's pretty standard Ra, students get a lot of leniency in this stuff.
