My friends and I used to do acid back when we were like 19-22 (this is pre-E days). We decided to do a couple hits (of what turned out to be pretty dirty) acid on one of the hottest steamiest nights of the summer - like still 90 and ridiculously humid at midnight. Also the old houses in KC would hold in all the heat from the day and just radiate it all night. So it could be nice outside and just disgusting inside. If it's still hot at night it's unbearable inside.

And that's how we spent our 8-10 hour trip on a double-hit of dirty acid - in a miserable sauna - because my buddy didn't want to spend $5 to run the air conditioner for one night.

It wasn't about the $5, it was about "breaking the seal" and you end up running it all summer. Or something. Money was such a touchy subject with him we all learned to just never bring it up. I sat there looking at the window unit, tripping my balls off in a puddle of sweat, imagining how wonderful cold air would feel - but didn't want to turn the trip into a nightmare argument about it.

I'm surprised, since you were tripping, you didn't turn on the a/c and just say "nah man, you're trippin.. the a/c isn't on."

DD,

Maybe I missed this, but do people address your dad as "Doctor"? Or does he ask to be called "Doctor"?

Really stand-out stories.

Sorry to be the one who has to say this after 270+ pages of this thread, but Double Down's dad is either stealing or committing fraud, not being stingy, when pretending to be a reporter at the electronics show. Obv he would never be prosecuted for this but just kicked out if caught.

I agree it is harmless fun (if you consider stealing from corporate America to be harmless fun), but personally I have found many other stories to be much stingier all throughout this thread, and I just don't get why people think he is the stingy king. I have seen way more stinginess throughout this entire thread than any DD story.

Also, I agree DD's Dad is a cool guy, don't get me wrong. I'm talking pure stinginess here. Like if DD's Dad divorced DD's Mom would he take the light bulbs out of the sockets before leaving type of stinginess?

Also, unlike Dids, you can ignore me because I'm not a mod. My name is Shoe /yourloss

In my very first post in this thread when I introduced him, I explained that I don't necessarily call what he does "stingy" either, since there is a connotation that stingy infers doing things in a begrudging, miserly manner.

But elsewhere in this thread, others defined "stingy" as going out of one's way to an extreme degree, thereby diminishing their own importance of things like time, energy, or respect, for the sole purpose of saving or making a little bit of money. I feel that this definitely the case in most of the stories so far. (Playing and losing $70 for a free buffet, embarrassing himself at my Bar Mitzvah by filming it himself instead of chipping in for the camera guy, going through the chocolate factory over and over for free chocolates, driving across town to return an incorrectly made salad that he got for free anyway, etc. etc. etc.)

It has also been explained several times in this thread that stinginess and outright theft are not mutually exclusive, nor by necessity inclusive. There are things that can fall into the category of both, although it seems like the argument gets heated when people minimalize the things that are theft as "stingy", even though the label fits. For example, sneaking into a second movie.

I really hope the thread doesn't derail down that path again, it was enjoyable for no one the first four times.

Oh, and he is referred to as Mr., not Dr. Although at his clinic, his patients and their parents call him Dr. Bob, and he is hands down one of the best pediatricians ever.

Again, sorry no offense, but things like the video poker story, are indeed amusing, but it is safe to say he has also won $70 from Video Poker and gotten a free buffet before too. Lots of people here have read Comp City or what have you and that is just how it goes.

Sometimes you pay to eat and sometimes you get paid to eat. In the end, you get your food cheaper than you are supposed to (on average).

You can call people who are playing for comps stingy but this example is nothing more than small sample size.

If you feel like you need to put this after your post, just don't make the post.

I hate social situations like that when the statement they make is so ridiculous it must be a joke, then you realize they're not joking and you're left with that ****-eating grin on your face lol

does he owe you a significant amount of money?

like, if it's $10, you probably shouldn't worry about it.

If it is $10k, it's probably reasnoable to request it.

Agree with Josem. If it's a significant amount of money to you I think it's understandable to talk to the parents. If not, I would let it go.

nothing to do with the thread, but it is a good idea to keep a folder somewhere (a safe) with all your online poker info. Just in case. Obv choose carefully when deciding who knows how to access this info..

yea i kinda figured this one out, but its an amount where its really close (300$ and im kind of busto but not srsly
).
problem 1 is that if his account is busto, i might have a hard time explaining them that i didnt want to scam them (ive never seen them before, so who knows which kind of people they are)

problem 2 , since he is a degen fish without brm, its quite possible he run it up to some kind of good amountand i dont want to "denie" that money his parents.

It's not close at all. trying to collect a $300 debt from people who just lost their child crosses the line from "stingy" to "terrible human being"

easy to say for you, when you are loaded with 500k in the bank.
300$ is like 3 months of food for me right now.
