Does your dad ever tip? Great stories, that convention one was my favorite. He sounds like a guy who enjoys life even though it might be awkward for people around him.

Yes, he tips. Like the majority of people of his generation, though, he hasn't recognized that 15% has become the low end of what is standard, or at least if it is 15%, it's after tax. He has actually gotten better about it, though, from eating out with me, since I'm a bit of an overtipper as a result of having lots of friends who are servers (LA "actors").

More to come, I promise.

That picture of Lovitz is priceless, although my dad's 'stache is furrier, like the Selleck.

I would like to hear some thoughts on this because my room mate says it belongs here I say no way.

I received 2 tickets to a concert for my birthday. The tickets are the most expensive tickets you can buy.

I was single when I got the tickets and asked my room mate to go with ( for free ) and we could party after with other friends that are buying tickets for the concert He says he can't go because he has to work.

I am now seeing a girl and asked her to go with me. She may not be able to
go the concert either.

So my question is, Is it a stingy thing to do to sell a ticket at a discounted price( 2/3 face value) to one of the other guys we were going to go party with after the concert?

He says I should just take one for free. I say it's not wrong to ask for something.

Would like to hear oppinions

He'd sell *both* tickets for a profit and then sneak into the concert.

He would call up the person who gave him the tickets as a gift and ask for a 3rd one because he needs to bring his girlfriend too. He'd then sell one of the extra tickets for cash, and trade the other extra ticket to the manager at IHOP in exchange for a card entitling him to eat free for a year. He would then proceed to eat 3 meals a day at IHOP for 1 year, gaining 170 pounds in the process. Then he would go on the Biggest Loser and win $250,000.

This one's tough because now you have to pick 1 friend from the group who gets a discounted ticket that is much closer to the stage. The other friends will be mad for two reasons, one that that guy will "ditch them" and go sit closer, and two, that you didn't pick them.

Best option is tell them all you will auction it to them all. Hire a licensed auctioneer obv.

I used to rent a room month to month in this old widow's house: I had a summer job at a farm and didn't want to bother with a lease. Shared bathroom, kitchen, everything.

After three days, she confronted me about my showers being too long. If I was to believe her, 3 minutes was a vast amount of time to be spent cleaning oneself. I worked about 12 hours a day picking various fruits, so you better believe I would take a shower that lasted longer than that. A week after moving in, she started turning off the water heater the minute I arrived on Mondays. This also meant that she didn't have hot water for long periods of time. I started to turn it back on. She locked the door to it. I threatened to complain to the authorities (she also didn't charge taxes ldo) and the heat was turned on again, altough I did get shouted at every two days.

I only had a motorcycle and for a week straight, it rained, so all my clothes were wet. I asked if I could use her dryer since the one at the busto laudromat was broken (yes, one dryer laudromat) and she charged me 5$ a load.

She installed internet in her part of the house and wanted me to chip in altough I didn't have access to the modem and she had no router.

I was furious 100% of the time, but I reasoned that she acted that way because she was poor. After all, she was alone, jobless and her husband had died. When I finally left after 6 weeks of hell, I learned from my dad who helped me pack that she was probably worth a couple of millions. He knew her because he worked with her brother. That guy was as much of stingy **** as she was: he was actually barred from attending company functions because of his long and honoured tradition of showing up 15 minutes before the end to avoid paying the cover fee and bringing boxes with him to take all the left overs from whatever buffet or bar they had. He even got caught eating the lunches of coworker a couple of times.

sorta reminded me of this one:

in college the hot water went out in my place upon my returning from a run. i lived in a house on a road with all college students.

i had a ton of mutual friends with my next door neighbor, and we got along well so i figured i'd knock on his door and ask if i could borrow his shower. i showed up in my running gear and a towel and asked if i could use his shower since my hot water was out. well call him frank.

he sorta blocked the door and was like "you know man... i have a heating bill to pay..."

there was like a 1 minute long awkward silence where i was trying to figure out if he was really not gonna let me use his shower. i figured maybe something weird was going on with his bathroom. then his roommate mark came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around him and was like oh hey bro! sup! i told him my hot water was out and i was seeing about borrowing the shower, and he was like oh cool man yeah i just finished, use ours!

at this point him and frank got in an escalating and prolonged verbal argument about why they cant let other people use their shower without everyones permission (4 person house) because of the heating bill.

i left mid-conversation and used my ex-gf's shower who lived down the road. was an extremely odd situation, one of the more awkward moments in my life. never really hung around there after.

Gramps remarried with one of his distanced cousin while approaching 80. The marriage basically lasted all of 2 years: she was after his money, he didn't get any tail (yeah, grandpa still cared about that). But they didn't divorce, since it wasn't the proper Christian thing to do (wich is to basically hate each others guts but still live under the same roof).

When it became apparent that he was suffering from dementia, the gold digger vacated the place and we placed him. What we found was amazing. She was tallying every little thing she bought for the household in multiple notebooks with a date, to make sure he would pay his half, wich is fair, but it redonculous. Stuff like:

12/10/1999
One can tomato paste: .39$
Box of noodles (2): 2$
Total: 2.39
Not PAID: 1.20 owed (yes, she rounded the cent in her favour 100% of the time).

She also charged him a 10$ flat fee plus mileage to drive him anywhere since he had long lost his license. This was also tallied in the notebooks.

hmm would think most broke college students would react this way... letting someone they don't really know use their water costing them money as well as leave pubes and dirty in their tub after a shower? :/
