My father would take old bottles of Hershey syrup and freeze them. He would then chisel the frozen syrup remains out when and add them to the new bottle which you then microwave and shake together. I asked why he didn't simply squeeze the syrup out into the new bottle and he said it's because the syrup always leaves a residue in the bottle when you do that so you can't get it all.

Last month I had the utility company call me and ask if my apartment was still occupied and why my water usage was so low. I had to explain that I shower at the gym, don't cook, and let it mellow if it's yellow.

not sure if this qualifies but somewhere around reading about buying rounds at the bar here i got reminded of a really bizarre experience i had at a bar with some friends.

a group of four girls i knew from college were going to the bar that was under my apartment with girl C's new boyfriend, well call him julio. girl C is the one who i am least friendly with but girl A B and D are essentially about as close of friends you can be with girls without banging them.

i don't know julio very well personally but we have met briefly in the past and i know his father is apparently a fairly wealthy restaurateur , and popular rumor had it that julio received quite a salary from him for "managing" one or more of the restaurants. it's also relatively well known that i had a made a decent amount of $ from poker around campus, although i can not say for sure whether or not julio is aware of this (i think its likely that he is.)

so i am last to arrive and they are at one of those round bar tables, everyone makes introductions blah blah, they already have some beers so i say hello and go to the bar and by myself a beer. a few minutes later julio asks the table if we'd like a round of shots. he goes to the bar, and gets everyone but me a shot. like, he brings back a tray of shots, hands them to all the girls, says "cheers" and they all just down them. i try to make eye contact with julio more so because i'm confused or wonder if maybe he just didn't notice that he forgot to grab me one. the girls realize what happened after they take the round and theres an awkward silence so i just ask julio if he wanted me to kick him $5 for the shot or if he just forgot or what. his replied that yes indeed, if i wanted to get a shot, i should have kicked him $5, as i'm not a girl and should pay for my own drinks.

i played it off like "yeah cool man, i hear you, my bad."

despite really wanting to be childish and buy a "round" and ask him for $4.50, i shortly thereafter excused myself from the party and went out elsewhere.

suffice it to say i never hung out with julio and company again.

not sure if that counts as stingy or what but it was one of the most awkward social experiences i ever had.

Worked in a factory with a guy who was so cheap he would eat other peoples food from their work stations and never bring any. One day, our printing supervisor put a mouse trap in a bag of potato chips just to get this guy. We all watched while he slowly reached in the bag then WHAM! He walked away pissed off but never said a word. If you told this guy"Hey, you want a coke?" he would say no but give me the .50 anyway and get pissed if you didn't give it to him.

Agreed. Great thread a while back ("Things That Aren't Worth the Extra Money. Things That Are.") TP was a clear choice that it IS worth the extra money.

My roommate always gets the cheap stuff, while I get the smooth, make your butt sing stuff.

One of my friends got arrested for stealing change from a outdoor fountain at night.

Don't know if that counts as stingy, but hilarious none the less.

Local bar that we used to go to atleast 3-4 times a week and blow tons of money at has dollar beer night on Thursdays. One particular thursday night I was really short on cash and at this bar (friend was coming later to spot me). This bar has several bars inside and we always drink at one of the less crowded upstairs bars that always has this bartender named Jeff who is friends with some of my friends. I first bought 3 beers off of Jeff and tipped him 1 dollar. Half hour later same thing. I then realize I only have $2 left but no worries as my friends are coming soon. I go up to Jeff and order 2 beers with my last moneys. As I am standing at bar sipping beer, Jeff comes up to me and asks where his tip is at. We end up arguing about it then I say here is your tip and pull out a coin and flick it in his face. This enrages Jeff and he tells me to get out of his bar, etc. I do not move. Jeff goes to manager, manager comes to talk to me and I tell him what happened and that I am not leaving unless they drag me out. (Manager sides with me as he recognizes me since my group of friends spend $500 plus a week there atleast)

So then my friends arrive and start ordering a bunch of shots. As Jeff is completing the order he says not to give one to me lol. My friends laugh and give me one anyways. Jeff is really pissed and I egg him on and taunt him a bit. Jeff's face turns read and head is about to asplode.

Several nights later at same bar Jeff's gf approaches me and tells me how what I did was so wrong, how they just bought a house and have a baby and live off his tips. My response, "Maybe he should get a better job"

A year or so later Jeff and a partner opened up a new bar a few blocks away. I have never stepped foot inside and always encourage my friends not to go there. This happened about 5 years ago and I bet if I walked into his bar he would recognize me and still be pissed LOL.

This reminds me of a story.

Back when I lived in Russia, my family and I went to visit the famous fountains in St. Petersburg (they're located on a little island and are considered one of the most appealing things to see in St. Petersburg). We were walking around admiring when we saw a bunch of 11-12 year old kids taking coins out of one of the fountains. We kinda laughed it off, but later on in the day we were walking by a fountain when one of the kids ran up to us and asked if we were gonna throw any coins into the fountain. When we said no, he ran back to his group of friends and they moved on to a different group of potential coin-throwers.

That's not really stingy at all, it's mostly just kids being mischievous, but I figured I'd share.

I don't consider this stingy, more taking advantage, but I'd like to hear from others on it.

When Krispy Kreme first came to Montreal, they had a promotional thing where they placed a free dozen donuts coupon in the local English paper (Montreal only has one) every day for a week. Well being an English speaker and most people I know being the same, I had access to many copies of the paper. I also knew that unsold papers simply had the headliners cut off and the rest thrown out, so at night I raided the bins from the local corner store. (papers weren't in bags of trash, just sitting on top)

Needless to say, I got around 30 free dozen donuts that week. I remember even dragging my family and gf to stand in line with me with coupons of their own. I didn't do it to save money, it was about gaming the system and getting free stuff.

I also remember going with my gf to get a donut, but while waiting in line, they gave us one, so we left.

All three Krispy Kremes in Montreal have since gone bankrupt. How the hell did their business model work anyway?

Oh and I can't compete with briefcase full of candy but one time I put a 12 pack of bottled beer in my school bag and went to see duce bigalow with my buddies. I remember rolling the empties down the isle. Would not watch that movie or any other staring Rob Rhiener sober.

We were waiting for the bus (yeah "lol bus" but this is not america) and a guy I know smells something tasty from the bakery and says I am going to buy a choclate bun. He goes in, comes out and says " They are too freaking expensive 70c! don't they usually go for 40c?" I am like wtf

Same here. I think it'd be appropriate to either bring that guy a 6" veggie with some ******ed sauce combination or just not get him anything. "Oops, I forgot your 12" double everything, assbag."

The bad part is that the guy who is paying probably wasn't there for the original order, so he has no idea that the guy originally ordered a 6".

That's a good point. I guess when the guy comes back with the 12", one of the witnesses of the original order should charge up and intercept the hand-off and spike the sandwich onto the ground and stomp on it. That will teach that greedy bastard a lesson.

Also my friend who asks for sodas with "no ice" because he obv wants a little more soda but claims its cause he likes the way it tastes better also tilts me.

I thought asking for "no ice" was standard if you didn't want 50% of your cup to be filled with ice.

lol at mentioning people who ask for no ice in their soda. This would be stingy if this person carried a cooler with ice cubes and manually added these afterwards, much like the "no room for cream" thing described earlier.

I always ask for no ice, and it's certainly not because I'm stingy. It's because ice in soda is generally horrible.

Cheap Butthole: Hey!! I didn't order a lemonade!
Waiter: Did you have a drink with lemon and sugar that we provided? That's a lemonade. $2.25 please.

We should never let anybody from a eurotard IP post in a thread that contains the word "tip".

We'll probably miss out on some story were Yeti gets laid- but it might just be worth it.

a college friend of mine was perennially cheap and pulled many of the moves described in this thread.

one time we went to a mcdonald's outside of the atlanta zoo to get something to drink. he decided that the soda was too expensive and asked for a cup for water. they gave him one of those small happy meal cups and then he filled it up with coke at the soda fountain while the cashier wasn't looking.
