This is a really good thread, the curious misinformed youth in OOT need something like this.
I've had 3 std's (MC, clap, and trichomoniasis) and almost caught a 4th (GW) about a year ago but got lucky. I was pretty low key too without many partners, and didn't really start having more sex, maybe 10+ partners a year until 1.5-2 years ago, and i'm young, just 25, so I can confirm they are pretty easy to get. Some even with condoms.
For the record, the 99.9% condom safety thing is BS, most non urethral STD's (herpes, GW, MC) are only slightly reduced by condom use. Herpes for example, is 30% reduction in transmission if condoms are used. Other widespread pubic area ones like MC are barely affected at all by condom use. For the record, I almost always use condoms.
I can also confirm that most are v treatable and/or transient, my clap gave me about 2 months of persistent pain though.
Herpes is the only one to worry about, but even that doesn't seem like that big a deal as you get older and more and more people have it, esp considering it rarely flares for most and isn't highly contagious when dormant.
Aids is essentially a non issue for white American hetero males. We've all hopefully read the wikipedia article by now.

Do not reccomend.
Don't let this worry you, its outdated. Almost all health clinics and urologists in the US and in Canada no longer use a urethral swab for testing. As it was very painful, this was a huge deterrent for testing and it wasn't even more effective in detection.
Now, doctors use a simple clean catch urine sample for almost all STD screenings.
It really is sad they used to do this routinely even 5 years ago. Some medical practices take a while to catch up.
