So I'm sure most people here have seen this Sprite commercial, especially if you watch a lot of basketball. I think it's a neat commercial and I happen to like the song. During the playoffs it came on, and I turned to my friends and asked them a simple question-

"Do you guys think they're swimming in Sprite or water?"

Little did I know I would open up a huge argument that still carries over to this day amongst my friends. I've asked other people including family members and other various acquaintances, and the response seems to be about a 50-50 split. So my simple question is put to you OOT - is it Sprite or is it water?

pretty obviously water. who the hell would swim in sprite. that's almost as ******ed as using sprite to rehydrate.

Neither. It's mostly CGI with the underwater shots being filmed at a remote swimming pool...filled with water.

Are the people you associate with dumb enough to believe that they dug a swimming pool in the middle of a basketball court and filled it with Sprite for a commercial?!

Well it's a dumb question, in a dumb thread, and I'm pretty dumbfounded that people actually waste time thinking about something this lame and irrelevant. I don't bother watching commercials and when I do I definitely don't give them any thought.

Why would anyone think there was any swimming in Sprite involved? That doesn't make any sense. How could someone think that?

Apparently OOT is much more rational than my friends, because some of them are still convinced that it's supposed to be Sprite.

Because I hate commercials? One is worthy of thought and the other is not. This commercial doesn't offer any deep meaning or induce profound thought. It's there to bring name recognition and to heighten sales; to advertise.

I took the question figuratively, not literally. So, not what they actually filmed it in, but what they are supposed to be swimming in in the context of the commercial.

I think the answer to that is pretty obviously Sprite. It's fizzing.

And to those of you saying "Sprite makes no sense", please unleash yourself from the chains of realism. After all, these guys just took running dives into the middle of a basketball court.

I took the question literally, like they had these guys actually swimming in a pool of Sprite for the shoot. I couldn't understand why anyone would think they'd have them swimming in Sprite.

Even figuratively, I think it's supposed to be water, like drinking Sprite is super-refreshing, like jumping in a pool. But I can see why someone would think it's supposed to look like a pool of Sprite.

OP wasn't clear at all. I along with everyone else thought you were literally asking what they were swimming in, obviously Sprite would be ******ed for tons of practical reasons, if you are asking what they are figuratively supposed to be swimming in it becomes a debate and I think the answer is Sprite.
