My daughter had a sleepover this weekend. Spiderdog suffered some consequences.

I have zero problem following the action while listening to music.

Its not hard to drown out the bull**** while still being affable to the rest.

Spiderdog looks quite indignant. Cute but indignant!

You guys the real move is to listen with only one ear bud in and slam the other one in if people are being obnoxious. Best of both worlds

I don't play with people I like for meaningful for either me or them money. I want to continue to like them. Poker is for me only for fun. My goal is not to make money but to have overall some kind of positive emotion from the game.

I do play a lot online and clearly there are a lot off people I don't like at a table. But we don't cross our paths anywhere else. And I don't have to interact with them in any way. I have to say I am completely enchanted by Unibet concept to have no chat or any communication options between players at all.

Basically if you are pro, then you can't choose. Your job is not only to know the math behind, but to deal with every annoying piece of **** and create a positive experience for annoying pieces of ****. That is what makes you money. But if your goal is increase of quality of your life, then you should correspondingly choose your games.

Truly elite headphone usage involves noise-canceling headphones on all the time, but pulling one headphone cup off as necessary to figure out the action.

Sometimes when you talk you really sound like an old lady that lives on an island somewhere.

At Starbucks yesterday morning, my shoes were unlaced because I was going to take them off again as soon as I got out to my car. Some gentleman approached me and said “I’m sure you know this, but both of your shoes are untied.” I said “yes, both observations are true. That’s because I like to drive with shoes off and I’m going to take mine off again as soon as I get in my car.” The man’s jaw dropped wide open: “you, too? I thought I was the only one that did this, but I drive 95 per cent of the time with my shoes off. Can I shake your hand?”

Take that, haters.

HT,

Makes sense that the weirdo who would come say that to you would be a weirdo in other areas too.

Have you ever told a stranger that their shoes are untied or that their jacket collar isn’t in place or that their fly is down? All are perfectly acceptable things to do in a neighborhood coffee shop.

I get in random conversations like this on a routine basis. I didn’t find the man’s mild intrusion to be even slightly weird.

Why didn't you guys shake bare feet?

If the dude traveled any distance across the room to tell you about your laces, that strikes me as strange. I can see someone that's already next to someone in line just casually giving them a heads up about a minor wardrobe issue, but that's about it.

Exactly.

I would never tell someone that didn't appear severely disabled that their shoes were untied, save for poking fun at randoms.

I walked right by him as I went from where I picked up my coffee to the condiment station. As I passed him, he said “good morning” and I responded “morning.” I suspect that if I’d kept my head down and said nothing like that curmudgeon El D would have, that he would have not then taken a step or two to the condiment station to mention my laces.

I would find it cruel and unnecessary to tease a random for an untied shoe. I think the man in question was a) trying to be courteous and/or b) genuinely curious as why someone who was otherwise alert, neatly-dressed, freshly showered and shaved would have two untied shoes.

I’m with Howard here, I like to occasionally engage random people. For example, asking an older lady in the produce section how to pick a good one of a certain fruit if I’m not up to speed. It’s a minor pushback against the era of googling everything and I like to think I’m doing my small part to keep the threads of human society from unraveling.

If this was anyone other than you, I wouldn't have believed this entire post wasnt completely made up. It reads exactly like an /r/thathappened story (albeit a really mundane one)

I ask 7's and up where the good local sushi is. And it's not because I care. My expectation for an uber tip goes up dramatically.

Also, Howard, we had a generational football talent this decade who chose to never tie his shoes in-game or not. Needling would likely invoke this reference.
04-09-2018 , 11:37 AM
Howard,

I would have said good morning back to him, in a pleasant enough manner to maintain civility and order, but not in a familiar enough way for him to feel emboldened to come talk about my laces.
04-09-2018 , 11:38 AM
For someone who takes his shoes off as frequently as HT does, I'm surprised that he hasn't found a no-lace shoe solution.
