In the stupid mistakes department: I was idly picking at a toenail two night ago and woke up yesterday with an inflamed toe. Doc said it is definitely infected. Here’s hoping it’s not MRSA!

If you wore your damn shoes that could have been prevented!

Also, how does one idly pick at their toes. Seems to me it would have to be quite intentional.

Spring sure isn't here. This morning it was 20 degrees and yesterday it was snowing sideways in 50 mph wind.

upstate ny, ftw

I was in bed watching a show. It was definitely an intentional action on my part but I wasn’t focused on it and pulled off too much of the nail.

Your threshhold for doctor visits is considerably lower than mine. Or did you just happen to run into your doctor at a restaurant / bar / poker table and immediately whip off your shoe and sock to get his opinion?

Lfs,

Why’d you quit Facebook?

One of my daughters had an infection that looked like this some years ago. It turned out to be antibiotic-resistant staph which got into the bone in her finger, and she lost about 2mm of bone. If we’d waited another day to deal with it, her surgeon said, she’d have lost the finger to the first knuckle, and 48 hours would have cost her the entire finger. But for that, I would have ignored this one unless and until it were to have worsened.

This strikes me as a low-probability high-cost problem, and my doctor will see me same-day as need be, so I thought it best to go in.

I’ve been going to my neighborhood Starbucks every day this week. This morning:

Me: Venti Latte, please.

Counter woman: Scott, is it? Alex?

Me: Henry.

I can’t win.

lapka,

I don't remember why I started. Probably because it was an interesting new technology to check out.

But I stay on it to easily communicate with a wide range of friends and acquaintances.

The Lederer defense remains impenetrable.

Are starbucks employees taught to try to remember your name at certain branches?
04-05-2018 , 12:13 PM
I don’t know if it’s corporate-mandated training or not, but many seem to do so.
04-05-2018 , 12:22 PM
At the less busy ones around Asia they always remembered my name, but I kind of assumed it was because I'm a special snowflake. "Steven" is a lot easier to remember when 98% of the customers are "Xiao fen" or "Yue fong" or something similar.

Now I don't feel like a special snowflake at all

Frequenting Starbucks enough to have your name known is a life leak imo.

HT do you have a coffee machine at the office? Do you just want to get out for some fresh air? Do you believe that Starbucks is kind of cool? Is it some kind of unconscious habit? Or what force makes you go to Starbucks on the regular? Is it that everyone does it? Do you just go along with nice company?

I do end up sometimes at Starbucks when travelling mainly for the internet.

I’ve been going lately because I redeemed point awards on a credit card for a stack of Starbucks gift cards. Normally, I make coffee at home and drink it while driving to work.

When the weather is nice, I take the dogs to the local coffee shop and sit on their patio. So I’m with you on this point generally.
