I'm no rocket scientist but it looks pretty good so far

The pitch and roll of the drone ship is going to make barge landings really hard.

might need to stick to land landings. could they put a landing zone on an island or something down range? maybe nova scotia for the east coast launches?

I have no idea; seems like Bermuda could possibly be a viable option on the east coast. Basing that solely on where the ASDS has been positioned in the past. Can't stress enough how much of a complete guess that is.

It looked like we got a glimpse of the flame from the rocket engine right before the link cut out. Crash is the heavy favorite here.

no upright landing

Hard landing broke landing leg and rocket is not upright.

Since the rocket has to hover slam (reach 0m/s velocity and 0m altitude simultaneously) and considering the relative instability of the drone ship in even moderate seas I am not optimistic that success will be achieved until the drone ship's movement can be contained to a smaller envelope.

1 of the landing gears did not lock causing it to fall to the side.

This looks to have been successful if the landing gear locked. Very promising.

Looks like it had some small explosion/fire when it fell

Much better than what I was expecting. The ship thrusters must not engage fully until moments before landing.

I am now optimistic for the next barge landing. SES-9 is a barge landing iirc and it's NET 6 Feb.

Ya I would consider today's test a success. It was dead on the target and the drone ship looked relatively stabled for as rough as the seas look. Very close to a perfect test

Elon Musk said on that video that it's suspected that ice build up from the heavy fog at takeoff could be root cause.

Looking forward to next one

They're set to launch again in 7 minutes and try a landing at sea.

Simply amazing.

Hard to believe it can land and stay upright on that platform.
