Mission accomplished!

Also, Starship SN5 is scheduled for a 150m hop tomorrow. A real chance of big explosions for this 1st flight.

Crazy with all the random boats swarming the floating spacecraft. Even a Trump dude...
They need to tighten the exclusion zone. lol

Stolen from reddit but I thought this gif of Falcon 9 leaving the atmosphere was pretty sweet

I remember seeing something similar during the last west coast Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg Air Force base. I saw it from my backyard in south Orange county.

Anyone know the accuracy of their splashdown operation? Like in terms of point X within a certain radius.

I know Apollo spacecraft returning from the moon were hitting target zones within a couple miles. So I assume the Dragon's radius was sub-one mile.

SpaceX SN5 prototype is going to do a 150m hop anytime now!

Very real chance of seeing things go BOOM.

edit: Elon just tweeted that hop will be at 6:56pm CDT

Starship 150m hop attempt #3 (LIVE!). Prob 15-30 minutes away (6:45-7pm cdt). SpaceX usually doesn't announce test times. I put the odds of a crash at 50%

Oh baby! Waiting for the dust to clear was tense!

A 100 foot by 30 foot soda can flying with a 45000 lb mass on top. That was with one engine. Can you imagine the Heavy lifter with 31 of those??? Damn.

SpaceX released video of the hop. A couple things to notice is that you can heard the comm's channel and status updates while the rocket is in flight. And, right before it begins it's landing and the camera transitions to under the rocket, you can see an engine fire. That could have ended bad. Also, watch the launch pad. A big chunk of something flys up in the air.

I recommend watching it at full resolution on the youtube site.

Crazy stuff, thanks for the updates. Imagine getting all the way to Mars and then doinking the landing and everyone dies?

Elon in an interview the other day said that Starship will make 100's of orbital flights before flying with people.

This evening the first flight qualified Starship got it's nosecone! That puppy is 50 meters (164 ft) tall.

The first flight is in a couple weeks. Watching it "skydive" through the atmosphere should be jaw dropping. I hope they can pull off that landing flip. If not, imagine the fireball!

SpaceX has released the details on it's Starlink Internet Beta:

It's called the Better Than Nothing Beta.

Estimated speeds 50Mbps to 150Mbps
Estimated latency 20ms to 40ms
Some interruptions in connectivity to be expected
$499 for the phased array antenna and router
$99 per month subscription

If I couldn't get cable or fiber internet, I would be all over this.

20ms latency on a sat link is insane! We use VSAT comms offshore and latency is typically 5-600ms. It's also like, $15,000 per month for a 4Mbps link.

I'd definitely be all over this if I lived in the middle of nowhere.
