I remember seeing something similar during the last west coast Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg Air Force base. I saw it from my backyard in south Orange county.
Starship 150m hop attempt #3 (LIVE!). Prob 15-30 minutes away (6:45-7pm cdt). SpaceX usually doesn't announce test times. I put the odds of a crash at 50%
A 100 foot by 30 foot soda can flying with a 45000 lb mass on top. That was with one engine. Can you imagine the Heavy lifter with 31 of those??? Damn.
SpaceX released video of the hop. A couple things to notice is that you can heard the comm's channel and status updates while the rocket is in flight. And, right before it begins it's landing and the camera transitions to under the rocket, you can see an engine fire. That could have ended bad. Also, watch the launch pad. A big chunk of something flys up in the air.
I recommend watching it at full resolution on the youtube site.
The first flight is in a couple weeks. Watching it "skydive" through the atmosphere should be jaw dropping. I hope they can pull off that landing flip. If not, imagine the fireball!
SpaceX has released the details on it's Starlink Internet Beta:
It's called the Better Than Nothing Beta.
Estimated speeds 50Mbps to 150Mbps
Estimated latency 20ms to 40ms
Some interruptions in connectivity to be expected
$499 for the phased array antenna and router
$99 per month subscription
If I couldn't get cable or fiber internet, I would be all over this.
