Imagine one day children and teachers will get a chance to head up to an orbit station, or a moon base for field away days.

What they are doing today is a really big deal, its not about today or tomorrow, its the path, its what is just over the hill.

We really want to see a good launch and dock today, it's so important. All of the Math is going to be completely nailed, its the materials.

Even one small issue with the weather scrub again and wait till its right, we can wait

Why is this particularly more exciting than the somewhat regular launches of new astronauts up to ISS? I get that it's a private co sending ppl up instead of NASA or Russia, but is it really much different?

got to love the name of that recovery ship lol, that's from all the huge hours they are spending at work, seeing this rocket land on the boat is going to be amazing,

stage 1 reentering and burning, look at the clouds it is breaking through, so cool.

bringing that stage 1 back for a landing is a big deal

Its every thing,
There was one example in a picture about how the invention of "lifts, elevator" allowed the rapid growth (in height) of sky scrappers and allowed a lot of growth in industry and Business, before the lifts, Buildings would be limited in height.

Reusable rocket is game changer. near earth orbit is going to be reachable :-)

Funny how they barely mention the 1st stage landing now when it seemed like a miracle the first time they managed it.

Got choked up. Bringing a rocket back to a controlled landing in the middle of the ocean is mind boggling.

It being a reusable rocket implies massive future potential due to the savings involved

100%

Just seems like the launch itself is more exciting that others.

I guess
- first on US soil in 9 years
- first from private co

So generally just more publicized and televised than a Soyuz launch from Russia.

Reusable rocket tech is definitely a nice bit but I don't think that's why people were watching.

I think it's excitement about SpaceX accomplishing something that the government had failed at for the past decade, despite having a 50-year head start. It was ****ing embarrassing for us to be paying Russia for a ride any time we wanted to do anything in space and now it's inspiring to think of what will come next. Musk obviously has bigger long-term goals in mind than anything the Soyuz was ever going to do.
