The MSM and all their peripheral toadies lolling at Elon because his ship blew up, when it was a complete success based on all the goals listed before liftoff, just leaves me sad at the state of this once-great nation. Literal...Idiocracy...times.

Glass it, let's start over.

Very sad, our country is on the cutting edge of science/engineering, in an extremely capital intensive field, being done privately and people can't cheer that.

Mostly in agreement with this (and i'm sure all anti Elon media would have reported any RUD the same way regardless of circumstance) but the base platform disintegrating and causing massive problems seems kind of predictable. The official response seemed to be that they had some data that suggested that the launch pad could withstand a single launch so they went ahead with it and crossed their fingers but the launch pad wasn't just damaged, it was obliterated. Any chance Elon demanded that the attempt was made on 4/20 regardless of risk?

A SpaceX Falcon-Heavy rocket with the Psyche spacecraft on board is launched from Nasa's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The craft is heading to a metal world - an asteroid called 16 Psyche - which telescopic observations suggest is made from up to 60% iron and nickel.

A volcano that's actually a launch pad!

Not sure about the Moon but it is the one being tested for going to Mars. I would assume it's being used for both though.

This is Bard's answer:

Quote:
The SpaceX Starship is a fully reusable launch system currently under development by SpaceX. When fully stacked, it will be the tallest and most powerful launch vehicle ever built. The Starship system is designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

Super Heavy Booster

The Super Heavy Booster is the first stage of the Starship system. It is a giant rocket that is powered by 33 Raptor engines. The Super Heavy Booster is designed to lift the Starship spacecraft into Earth orbit.

Starship Spacecraft

The Starship spacecraft is the second stage of the Starship system. It is a large, two-stage spacecraft that is designed to carry crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The Starship spacecraft is powered by six Raptor engines.

Reusability

One of the key features of the Starship system is its reusability. Both the Super Heavy Booster and the Starship spacecraft are designed to be fully reusable. This means that they will be able to be landed after launch and used again on future missions. This will make the Starship system a much more affordable way to travel to space than current launch systems.

Capabilities

The Starship system is capable of carrying up to 150 metric tonnes of cargo to Earth orbit. This is more than any other launch system currently in operation. The Starship system is also designed to be able to carry crew to the Moon and Mars.

Development Status

The Starship system is currently under development. SpaceX has conducted several test flights of the Starship system, and the company plans to conduct more test flights in the coming months. SpaceX hopes to begin commercial operations of the Starship system in the mid-2020s.

Future Plans

SpaceX has a number of ambitious plans for the Starship system. The company plans to use the Starship system to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon and to send the first humans to Mars. SpaceX also plans to use the Starship system to launch commercial satellites and to transport cargo to and from space.

The Starship system is a revolutionary new launch system that has the potential to change the way we travel to space. SpaceX is making significant progress in the development of the Starship system, and the company is on track to achieve its ambitious goals.

The Manned missions to the moon will be using the NASA developed Artemis system. It will use the SLS rocket to send the Orion space capsule to lunar orbit. Again, these are all NASA vehicles. SpaceX will provide the HLS (Human Landing System) lunar landing craft that will transport the astronauts from Orion at an orbiting lunar gateway to the lunar surface. HLS is based on Starship and relies on it to achieve earth orbit and to be refueled and sent to the moon.

Set your alarms! Launch window opens tomorrow/Saturday at 7am CST! The window is 20 minutes. So it's either going to launch on time or be scrubbed.
