A lot of people in this thread are probably only familiar with the version of Mad World they've heard in Donnie Darko, but the original really needs to be posted because the dancer who first appears at about 1:48 is ballin' out of control:
I know I'm going to receive a ton of crap for that, but honestly I was amazed at how well done it was. I was not around for the original, but my dad was a hardcore fan so I do have much respect.
I have both versions though, a lot of it depends on my mood on which one is better
There's no reason to try a better one. Any other choices would be left to taste, but I can't think of one person, and have never heard of one person, who thought Dylan's version was better.

I very much like the Shadows of Knight version of Gloria better than Van Morrison's original. I know there are a lot of "OMG....you can''t diss Morrison" fan-boi's out there but I always liked the Shadows of Knight version better.
Don't necessarily like this one better but I still like it in its own way. Kind of similar to cryme pushing the boundries by including the Fun Boy Three cover of Our Lips are Sealed.
MAX H ARE YOU AWARE THAT YOU ACCIDENTALLY USED THE WRONG WORD 'PENULTIMATE' WHEN YOU LIKELY MEANT TO SAY ULTIMATE? I just want to make sure you understand this.
