The first time I was left in charge to babysit my brother I was probably 9 or 10. I wanted to be a super cool brother so I let him eat all the kraft dinner and tiger ice cream--which was an orange and licorice swirled abomination-- he wanted before I put him to bed and my best buddy and I settled in to watch some horror movie.

He got up to use the bathroom and started yelling to us distressed. When we went to investigate we found him sitting on the toilet, so small his feet thankfully not touching the floor, because puddling around the entire room was what looked to be about a gallon of black sludge he had vomited out. It was a very consistent color and texture, except that there were quite a few entirely whole kraft dinner noodles throughout. It was even dripping from his nose.

So no idea how it composts but I can confidently say the noodles don't come close to meeting their half-life in the digestive system within the first couple of hours.

while on the topic of boxed mac & cheese, if you haven't yet tried annie's white cheddar mac & cheese you're missing out.
I don't eat mac and cheese all that often, but when I do, it's Annie's.

Tater tots are my #1. still delicious by themselves or dipped in ketchup.
And tots fried up in butter with some onion and topped with a couple over easy eggs is one of my favorite breakfasts of all time.

Comes out cheesier - it's chemistry brah

(no idea if it actually works, but I remember being mind blown at the difference)

Alobar,

You know what you have to do

There have been several times in my adult life where I've gone out to eat with friends and generated instant and heated jealousy when I substitute tater tots for my side while they just stick with default fries.

Tater tots are GOAT.

I've never heard of tiger ice cream so I had to google it. What an odd flavor combination (orange and liquorice) but people seem to like it.

By that logic Jagermeister should taste good mixed with OJ.

Cs,

Tater tots don't feel like they really count, though. They are just a really great food that both kids and adults eat and love.

To me they count as kid food because they were a delicious island in the sea of inedible school lunch chow.

Yeah, tater tots are a mainstay on "kids menu" items, and arent really default on grown up menus. Kinda dumb, cuz tots trump fries most of the time. Don't consider them kid food tho.

Alobar,

You're probably right in general. I'm just biased by being out here in SF where tots are a mainstay on every "gourmet burger" or "gastropub" or basically any sort of fancy beer/cocktail place bar menu.

I'll tell you what's the absolute worst. When someplace advertises tater tots, and then serves you fried mashed potatoes. TOTS ARE MADE OF ****ING SHREDDED POTATO, NOT MASHED POTATO!

Totchos are elite potatoeing, no doubt.
09-25-2017 , 03:42 PM
El D,

Have you tried the fully loaded tots?
09-25-2017 , 03:50 PM
El D,

Yeah kids and hipsters love the **** out of tots :P
09-25-2017 , 04:01 PM
Big,

I haven't eaten at the first place. I've had all the tots except the garlic crab tots at the second place, and Ive had the basic and weekly special tots at the last place.

All the tots were great!
09-25-2017 , 04:16 PM
The regular tots from the frozen bag I had as a kid were definitely good and still are. And as lame as it may be to get all hipster and fancy with tots, the ones I've had have all been pretty awesome. At their best though they are just pretty much like decent potato latkes. Hmm...do any of those hipster places serve latkes?
09-25-2017 , 04:19 PM
Dude, latkes could be the next big food truck trend. I'd buy them.
09-25-2017 , 04:20 PM
People tell me that that some restaurants in San Francisco can be quite pretentious about the most basic foods.
09-25-2017 , 04:35 PM
I'd like a dumbed down version of that food tasting list posted earlier. Loled at "tomatoes soaking in their own juices".

Credit to my mom, but I make truly great latkes. Anyone have a food truck?

There was a guy here but I think he came up a little light in his first round of fundraising
