I am sitting here in my living room listening to a live recording of Billy Joel and I am struck how vastly different he sounds from studio recordings.

What singers come to mind when you think of singers who sound vastly different live?

Billy Joel is 70. Of course he's going to sound different than recordings he made 30 years ago.

We saw Aerosmith at the MGM recently. Stephen Tyler's voice is so shot he has two back up singers auto tuned to fill out his vocals and make them bearable.

I don't mean that.

I am talking about a singer whose real singing voice sounds way different than their studio voice. And not due to age.

For me, that is Billy Joel.

On the flip side, Eagles are seasoned citizens, they all still sounded damn good in the two live shows I saw, and they still sounded close to the original studio recordings.

Is there anyone that sounds the same live as they do in the studio?

Eagles sounded damn close so did Moody Blues although with the latter I only have a live album to compare with a studio album.

Other acts I have seen live which compared favorably to their studio self were Three Dog Night which was more like Two Dog Night at that point and Dennis DeYoung.

I barely even knew that was Enrico Caruso singing in that one opera I went to, so weird!

Oh, come on. You aren't THAT old.

I was listening to a recording of Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park and it seems like their voices got higher.

Right now, I am listening to various songs by Dennis DeYoung with most of them live versions.

I heard Taylor Swift is really bad at singing live, can't hit notes or whatever.

Shania Twain. She's so produced and auto tuned that she can't perform live.

Green Day's talent is limited to their own confinement. But when a fan yelled, "Play Metallica!" at a show I saw when I was 15, for approximately ~5 seconds they put Metallica out of orbit. Did not see that coming.

After watching Ozzy's reality show, I'm really curious as to how he sounds in concert these days.

William Hung maybe?

It would be great to run in to him at the Aria again and convince him to sing out She Bangs live.

While I did see William Hung back in 2009 at the WPT Celebrity Invitational and where he was chip leader for awhile, we did not have the "pleasure" of hearing him sing She Bangs.

After getting into them after the movie someone linked this from Motley Crew playing live in 2015. It's sad and hilariously bad at the same time. Everyone else is great but the lead singer is just 20 years past being able to be a lead singer.

Vince used to play our nightclub before Motley Crue got back together. This was 2004 and he was done then.

Even in his prime Vince was horrible live. The rest of the band were excellent.
