If this is the case why do guys love sammwiches being brought to them on the couch rather than getting up and making one themselves?

On a serious note though I do get it as I've heard similar things from weed smokers addicted to the bong/joint whatever and that eating it does nothing for them as they prefer the ritual associated with the other.

I don't enjoy it. She never makes it the correct way. There's too much of one thing and too little of that.

If it isn't obvious, I'm unmarried.

Yeah, this makes sense. I'm not a weed smoker, but from what I've seen, they love the ritual. I'm sure some / most / all (?) has something that is sort of a ritual, but not totally needed in their life. Not a big thing like going to the gym, but a small thing that takes 10 minutes. Sometimes the brain needs to be on pause.

Probably the closest thing for me is making tea, especially a pot of it. I enjoy all aspects of it from putting the kettle on, to adding the tea leaves and then letting it steep before pouring myself a cup. Part of the ritual is now slightly different as I use an electric jug instead of an old fashioned kettle on the stove and I do miss the whistling sound the kettle would make when it was ready, probably a reminder of my childhood. I enjoy making herbal teas just as much, going to the garden and snipping what I want and then letting the herbs steep before I add a little honey. it's quite meditative really.

Everyone knows the proper way to make a PB&J is to spread the peanut butter first!

Re: Should cigarettes be illegal?

Grunch, sorry if anyone has already suggested this..

What does anyone think of the idea of gradually increasing the minimum age to buy / smoke cigarettes by one year each year, until they are effectively outlawed? No current smoker would be prevented from buying them, but it would effectively be illegal for young people to start smoking.

Re: Should cigarettes be illegal?

do we really want to spend government funds to enforce this law? seems like it would be a horrible waste of funds. i hate, hate hate cigarettes but I think the current situation is fine. They're expensive and not as popular as they used to be especially in the US.

Re: Should cigarettes be illegal?

The truth is no they shouldnt be illegal. If someone wants to poison themselves who is anyone to intervene.

But I fully support banning them in all public places. Nobody should be forced to second hand inhale that garbage either.

You want to smoke go smoke in private.

It should be questioned whether someone 18+ yrs accustomed to living in society posing this a question of legality instead of a statement of personal displeasure in others aesthetically should be able to breed freely

Even in commercial areas, utilizing resources on stopping smokers seems practically unenforceable and a huge waste of time and money.

I'm a nonsmoker but these bans are ridiculous. I'm all for banning smoking in places people have to go like airports, grocery stores or hospitals but no one has to go to a bar. As far as out door smoking bans go they are all ridiculous when you consider the toxins cars put into the air.

I agree with smoking bans in poker rooms because you are sitting so close. But I wouldn't have a problem with smoking games if they were far enough away from non smoking tables.

Re: Should cigarettes be illegal?

My mother's been smoking for 60 years; 3 packs per day. In Massachusetts a pack costs about $9.00 so the majority of her SS goes up in smoke. Plus she lives alone because she doesn't want to give up smoking and neither my sister nor I can live with such smoking. So for the aged I'd say smoking is a financial and social burden in addition to the obvious health issues.

It starts with the act of lighting it, it's a habit forming action that's enjoyable. The first inhale of a freshly lit cigarette slightly stings the back of the throat in a way that's like a nice sting - you feel it immediately sweep over you. Then it's like it creates a bubble around you, breaking you away from everything that's going on outside you and the cigarette. When you're smoking with other people in say a smoking area of a bar, it's like you're all separated from everyone else in your own little world. It's a break from everything.

Again, not a perfect explanation, but it's got a lot to do with the physical act of smoking, not just the intake of nicotine - the nicotine just gives you that pinch that reminds you to go back for another.
This seems pretty accurate to me.

The thing I personally miss most about smoking is being able to **** off at work 1/4 of the day like my smoker co-workers.

Heh no doubt. People who grew up after the 80s have no frame of reference for just how widespread it used to be. In my personal experience: At my first job as a teenager (telemarketing) everyone there smoked and had ashtrays at their workstations; My mom ducked into the smoking room a couple times during my first emergency room trip at age 6 (even then most hospitals segregated smokers but they were maybe the first to do so); before the 1980s there was no legal age limit to purchase tobacco...I used to ride my bike to the store with a crisp dollar bill, buy my mom a pack of Marlboro Lights 100s, and have a quarter left over to play Pac Man...ditto for my father who chewed Red Man; when I was in the military and flew overseas to my first PDS (early 90s), the back 1/3rd of the 747 I was on was for smokers, and there was no divider so essentially the entire plane got to experience the smoke or at least the smell.

At motor city casino in Detroit the poker room is separated from the slots by 10-15ft and some glass (not enclosed though). Your clothes still smell like smoke if you play at a table near the entrance to the poker room.

Some of the charity rooms (poker in bars, bowling alleys, etc...) would allow vaping at the table. I would leave. Bunch of totally unregulated chemicals that are probably worse than cigs.

But prohibition doesn't work. People already illegally "import" cigs from North Carolina and other low tax places to Michigan. Let people do what they want in their own home.

The day cigarettes become illegal is the day I blow my brains out. What is this huge fascination with living longer and longer everybody dies. Does the man have your self interest at heart? Or is a healthy person more productive to the economy and the super rich.

Or is the man keeping you down by having you pay daily for a shortening of your own life? Pretty sure 'the man' is on the side of us smoking as much as we can.
