I purchased a printer online at CDW for the price they had listed on their website. They charged my CC but never shipped the printer & wouldn't tell me why. After several emails, they claimed it was back ordered (they were lying, I have a chat record confirming the printers were in stock). Finally, this morning (almost 20 days later) they tell me they can't honor that price and it will now be almost $2,000 (originally $500ish, see below).

I thought the price seemed uber cheap when I bought it and even thought it could be a mistake, which brings up some questions:

• Is it right/ethical to even attempt to get them to honor their price?
  
  
• If ethics, etc isn't an issue, is there even a way to force them to sell it to me at that price?

My guess is there is nothing I can do but I thought an attorney or other creative folks might chime in with an opinion on what I can/can't/should/shouldn't do.

I know if Amazon did this, I would already have the printer hooked up and working at the price listed when I bought it and would have never heard a peep about the pricing discrepancy.

PS..when I signed up to purchase there wasn't a terms of service I had to agree to but on their site they have a web page for their Terms and Conditions which I haven't read enough to confirm whether there is or isn't a clause regarding misquoted pricing.

PSS..obviously at a minimum my credit card charge will be reversed.

It was an incorrect listing. It happens all the time on the internet. They rarely ship and arguing wont get you anywhere

And it's happened on Amazon before and they've not shipped. These are becoming very common and hardly anyone is actually fulfilling them anymore

Really depends on the circumstances but I'd imagine them definitely having to honor this incorrect listing where Im from but maybe some fake lawyer can chime in. I would 100% pressure them into delivering it for that price, if needed call in my legal insurance to take care of it.

As I stated, I didn't explicitly agree to any terms of service when I signed up and made the order. There was no standard terms of service I had to agree to before the order was placed or before I created an account.

The link I sent was posted on their website and IMO is similar to me posting a sign on my property that I am not liable for anyone who gets hurt when to my knowledge merely posting a sign like this doesn't absolve me of any and all liability.

Regardless, my gut feeling is to not waste time trying to get CDW to ship at the price quoted and had they immediately responded with a call, text or email notifying me of the error, I would have been disappointed but understood.

What I found irritating is how they ignored my emails, gave me the run around then lied to me before ultimately saying they wouldn't sell at the price they listed on their website after 3 weeks.

Eh, I guess its not a thing where you're from but I pay a couple of bucks for legal insurance, if I get into trouble I mail them everything they need and they either buy me out or take the case and proceed with it (it depends on how much money is at stake).

It is and after I made the order, I thought oh ****, I probably just bought the paper-trey only or some kind of printer stand because I didn't read the fine print. So I went back and reread everything and thought something doesn't sound right here but what the hell, lets see what happens...

The reason I made the post is because I ordered this before I went out to visit my dad last week. My dad's wife's son, who works at Oracle (40-something years old) was there was well. I told them I just ordered a great printer and either got an incredible deal or they screwed up the price and will not ship it.

To my surprise they both jumped down my throat when I said I wouldn't push it if they didn't send it. They said I gotta raise hell if they don't ship it because its their mistake and I was like yeah, but **** happens, I ain't raising hell over some clerical mistake. They wouldn't let up and said I should hire an attorney and I was like really, guys?

Sure, it would be nice if I ended up getting the printer at that price and CDW chalked it up as a cost of doing business and perhaps my order alerted them to a problem they didn't know existed and saved them money in the long run but go berserk, hire an attorney, etc...nah, I'll pass.

Since they were both so adamant, I was curious to see what the consensus would be around here would be when presented with this scenario.

It's a pretty sketchy business practice for them to have decided not to honor the order 2+ weeks ago and to still not have refunded your money. You could potentially charge back the order with your CC company if you want to **** with them.

Tell your dad and step-brother that you'd be happy to sell the rights to the lawsuit to them at a discount.
