A little background: I pretty much run on Dunkin. I buy a cold brew on my way to work every day and 1 or 2 more after that. Every day.

I buy my morning coffee at a Dunkin near my house and here's where the problem lies. They're service is just horrible. There can be 2 people waiting in line but it might take 15 minutes to get a coffee. In fact, about a year ago, after waiting for 20 minutes (in a short line) I left after telling the manager/owner what I thought of the place. I stopped going there for about a month but I want my coffee so I've been back daily.

Fast forward to about 3 months ago. The manager/owner (who I hate) hands me my receipt and asks me to take the survey noted on the bottom. I think "Lady you don't want me filling out a survey, trust me." but I just nodded, tossed the slip about and didn't think about it again.

A week later she asked me again to take the survey. (I didn't.)

About a month ago she asked me why I didn't take her survey and could I please, she'd really appreciate it. So I did it, and yeah I gave her a glowing review. Why? It's her livelihood I guess, plus I figured that would be the end of that.

I thought wrong.

She gave me another receipt last week, with a survey request at the bottom and asked again that I take it. I didn't.

Today she asked why. WTF! I told her that I'd taken one a few weeks back. She hands me a free donut (that I didn't order) and asks me to take another one today, that she really needs it. Stupidly I say okay.

(Reason isn't cuz I'm stupid, it's more like I'm socially ******ed and have a hard time talking to people I don't know or like. Anyway!)

As I'm walking away thinking I better do this **** as soon as I get into the office cuz I'll forget, she calls out to me "I need you to take the survey once a week!".

What. The. Fork.

I want to keep getting my daily coffee there. I don't want to take anymore surveys, though I just finished my second one. I don't want her spitting in my coffee on the QT. I have a hard time talking to pushy people I don't know unless i'm at the felt. What on earth do I do? What's my next move?

This would be a great time to buy a french press and spend the 30 seconds it would take every night in order to have a cold brew waiting for you in the morning, and then never go into the DD again.

I own a french press and a keurig. I'll dig it out tonight. I never thought to brew the night before to get cold coffee in the am. I'll try it but I don't think i'll like it as much.

Spending $8-$12 every day on coffee is a big leak. I've only recently upped it from 1 per day to 2-3. I've cut out most sugar and processed foods so I feel like I'm entitled to this "treat" that is costing me about $250 per month. Time to rethink.

OP,

After the second time, you can save the world a lot of trouble by telling the barista "I'm not interested in taking this survey, ever. But can I have your number? :wink wink:"

Ideally the barista will be old enough to be your grandma, at which point she will hopefully call you pervert and forbid you from entering again.

The next time you show up, she probably won't give you the survey.

Last I heard the requirements to have a Dunkins were really strict when it comes to franchises, so it wouldn't surprise me that with the issues you noted in your first post in regards to service, this owner/operator is currently below acceptable level of customer satisfaction and is unable to open more stores, or some other penalty.

If this person does genuinely own the store, then you should def be able to swindle a deal to get a free coffee to fill out the survey.

Btw, does anyone ever fill out these surveys?

I have come to really detest every form of hollow survey and transparent net-promoter-score response form. If you are providing great service or bad service there should be ample opportunities to measure it through things that are not intrusive and disruptive to your customers, increasing their happiness even more. That would be a great business idea if it isn't ubiquitous, which given how many surveys I'm sent after any type of support interaction it doesn't seem to be.
