Seems self-defeating if everytime you bring your anxiety dog into arestaurant, you're nervous that someone will single you and your pet out for abuse.

The problem most people have with hearing "when I pet my dog it makes me feel better" is that it sounds stupid. They then assume that you're bringing your dog on the plane to save money on either checking it or boarding it.

Why not? There are lots of rules in society that don't have exceptions. No animals in restaurants seems like a pretty reasonable one to me.

I am way more pissed off by children being on a plane. I've never had any issues with service dogs in public places, but on half the flights I take there is an annoying kid, usually sitting right behind me and yammering the whole time or kicking the back of my seat (or both). If a kid can't sit still and mostly quiet on a flight, he is too young to fly, period.

Whereas a dog reads his paper, takes a nap and enjoys a good movie in silence.

Also, no one is allergic to dogs of course.

for some reason I thought it was more of a west coast thing. flew to san fransciso recently, and the airport has a yoga room and dedicated pet relief area.

this. i always wait til im the very last one in the sitting area to board the flying tin box.

its always funny to see everyone crammed in like noobs already for 15+ mins, and i can just stroll on and take off. i ALWAYS have a selected seat by the window, and i always get it, so theres no rush.

Ive never been socially outcast, like being kicked out of a store or had people yell at me, but im not carrying a dog into public places with food and people eating.... seems like a bad idea.

When i travel its usually for multiple weeks so I just have 1 huge bag i check and no carry-on ever. Trust me its good strat.

I really can't see how a 5 lb dog can do something a 20-50lb dog can't do. Of course small dogs can, of course, be trained to be a service dog, but I just don't see why they are viable options to be a service dog with their vulnerability and susceptibility to health problems.

The point is, a lot of people with smaller breeds are going to try putting them in bags, purses, etc., and it's not a huge deal to me since they are contained, but a legit service dog should be on the ground the majority of the time.

Even when I'm not in 1st the flight attendant will come check on me and offer a free drink when I'm on the plane early. It's good to have status.

Dogs not allowed in restaurants is common etiquette unless it's a true service dog.

I haven't for a few years but I went through like 2 years of intense depression and anxiety and I didn't like what the pills did to me so I tried doing that instead.

The thing that got me to stop and resort to other things was people's over the top reaction when they saw that I had a tiny dog with me. Most people didn't even notice I had a dog because I was more than likely carrying him and he didn't make a single sound. I was sitting at a table with someone for like 20 minutes before he noticed he was with me. But people lost their minds for some reason once they saw him.

I consider myself extremely lucky that I was able to get myself help and not have to have him with me 24/7 like some people. I can't imagine having a small dog trained to detect seizures because apparently I'd have to deal with random people treating me like **** every day for the rest of my life.
