A few days ago, Phil Ivey was interviewed on Daniel Negreanu’s podcast, and he was talking about some Chinese tea that players in Macau were drinking to stay awake for long periods of time. What’s he talking about?

That's where I would ask a question like that.

Madlex said he's good.

Over here in oot we like to breakdown the true value of a fast food menu down to the calorie. We also discuss the finer things in life, like sushi. Occasionally we express our thoughts with youtube videos.

most tea is heavy in caffeine, it was most likely green tea which is the standard "i need a pickmeup" choice

seems odd he'd phrase it like that like that were the reason people drank it, chinese love their coffee and redbull/monster as well

most likely they drank tea because that's what they liked and it had that nice added bonus - it also supresses hunger so you don't feel so inclined to leave table to get a meal

I don’t feel like that’s the case. There’s no tea that’s going to wire someone for days and make Ivey say that it got his heart racing to that point. Caffeine doesn’t do that.

I’m just curious if they have some sort of natural adderall substitute in a tea.

then he was either exaggerating, pulling a level or they were spiking it with drugs and he left that part out

avid tea drinker, over a decade in china, former macau reg - so such "tea" exists

i'm not speculating here, avid tea drinker, over a decade in china, former macau reg - so such "tea" exists
I recently learned about Kratom tea or White Maeng Da, but it doesn’t sound like that does the same thing. I figure there has to be similar classes of tea, which is basically a drug in the form of a tea leaf.

no, just drugs, only speed/meth etc can do what you're talking about, everything else is more along the redbull/coffee/6 hour energy type results - remember those are billion dollar beverages because they keep you alert - if there were something more effective it wouldn't be a secret, but rather mass produced and on every store shelf

people are inventive and like money - no way any gap like that could occur

May have been pu-erh tea. Ripe pu-erh has a pretty high caffeine content especially when brewed for longer periods of time.

muttiah is correct. It's not an actual tea, but a "tea" with some sort of amphetamines. You're not staying up for three days straight playing poker by drinking a highly caffeinated beverage
