Ugh, the friend who got me into wwf, and has admitted to on occasion looking up words, has suddenly busted out a couple words in endgame that I know she looked up. Until that point I was winning. Very irritating. Kinda want to not play her anymore but she *is* a friend.

i really need to stop playing words when drunk, i always wake up to see i dropped a huge 6 pointer that opened up the board.

also, what are people's thoughts on resignation? i never do it (and no one else seems to) but near the end of a game that is obviously won it seems ******ed to keep passing it back and forth playing a tile at the time. such a waste of time.

Personally, I think it's useful to keep plugging away for a while, just to recognize useful arrangements, but I don't have a problem with resigning if there's few tiles left, and it's out of reach.

I hate when variance kicks in and when someone similarly skilled as you are and gets the perfect letters at the perfect time and you get all vowels twice after swapping 4 tiles. sigh

Fly dropped like a 100 and a 65 on me back to back (while I did like a 15 and 18) and the whole rest of the game was just bleeding me dry like a stuck pig. I guess I could have offered to him to resign, but I think he enjoyed continuing the drubbing.

It's always extra embarrassing when you go to drop down words and more than one of your attempted words is deemed to not be a real world.

Huh? I do this all day long... I constantly try odd combos to see what will work.

I usually start with a word I know, then just start messing around with it.

I almost never swap tiles. What are everyone's thoughts and what are your strats when you do. I think I've done it like 2-3 times ever and I play a lot. One time it was because I had 5 O's

The only words I've ever looked up are 2 letter words. I found a website with a list of all of them. It basically didn't help my score jsut saved me some time so I didnt have to keep trying them to see what were words. Now a recent update tells you exactly which words aren't words whenever you try something and fail. That is very helpful imo.

I had no idea about tons of two letters words but as I play people that are more scrabble-savvy I'm learning a lot of them. I still feel like a bit of a schmuck doing either that or just playing things I assume are words because they fit the right vowel/consonant combo/order.

I'd like to play a few people! RitaNg123 if anyone wants to play. A game usually takes me 1-2 days to finish.

Yea I kind of feel dirty too when I play a word that I have never heard of but just tried because it sounded like it could be a word. I feel like this is basically cheating. I think they should limit the amount of times you can play something and it not be a word. And then after like 10 times you start losing points or something. That will keep people from just trying random letter combinations indiscriminantly all the time and getting words out of them they have never heard of. I believe doing that takes away from the spirit of the game.

similarly if you have a horrid rack and there's only a few tiles left in the bag.

or what michaelson said.

so basically tons of situations!
^this. Or sometimes just because it's better to be one tempo behind because the board is likely to open up favorably for you.

Yeah, that always amuses me. There's been several occasions where I've played/rematched a random person 3-4 times always winning by 100+, and suddenly they start popping out bizarre words. As you said, they generally have no idea of strategy, so they still lose.

On the other hand, something I like is playing someone who can come up with words as well as I can but doesn't have a sense of strategy. Over the course of a few games they actually pick up on strategy from seeing what I do, and it makes for some competitive/enjoyable games. That's happened to me several times as well.
