Honor system. What would be the fun in winning if you cheated? The great thing about this format is that it is competitive for everyone because of the group stratification. Whether you are fighting for a top spot to get moved up or you are trying to avoid a demotion, every game counts.

Plus if you cheat and get moved up a group and continue to use three power ups you're gonna feel really dumb when you get beat anyways. Games would never get completed otherwise plus I play a ton of games and that would cost so much.

Yes, everyone must challenge me, as if they aren't supposed to be in the bottom group I don't want to mistakenly put them there. Also maybe they'll win

If you want to join the Scramble league you must do as follows:

1. Challenge curtains20 to a game on Scramble with Friends. This is so that you can be placed in the appropriate group for your level.

2. Let curtains know your SWF screenname, 2+2 screenname and supply an email address to get added to the league email list.

The key things to this league are as follows:

1. The league moves very quickly...a season generally is over in 2.5 weeks.
2. The league is broken up into groups of approximate skill level. If you do well in one season you may move up to a higher group. If you do poorly you may move to a lower group. You will play everyone in your group twice during the season.
3. The scoring works as follows: You get one point for winning a round, and you get two points for winning the match. This means you can achieve a total of five points in any match.
4. You are allowed to use only two power ups per round. If you use three power ups, you are cheating.

I have lost every league game so far in group 5, but I won 1 round and games have generally been close.

Expert tip for jail-broken iPhone users: NotiQuiet is a free cydia app that allows you to block all notifications, texts and alerts while you're in a scramble game, so that it doesn't auto-pause you, or freeze for a second to display a notification. it's gold and hugely+EV

I imagine something also exists for android users.

That should be useful, although I already have mine pretty much blocked. Only thing I can't stop is phone calls. Btw who are you, somehow I don't have your 2+2 handle on record.

nice ty. i also use 'removebg' in conjunction with sbsettings to close all the other programs before i play. scramble lags so bad for me if i have 30-50mb of RAM free instead of 200.

i'm surprised no one else has mentioned this problem, i have to restart my phone at least once a day because for whatever reason scramble eats up all of the available RAM.

yeah it disproves once and for all the "apps in the background don't use memory"/"you should never need to close an app on the iPhone" points of view.

Anyway, I've been in China forever, and don't have much scramble interaction with friends. I spent hours googling for scramble tips, or strat.. finally through googling for scramble (nothing related to 2p2), I stumbled across this thread, and was like wholy f*ck yeah! Of course the first ppl to break scramble are my fellow poker players

I'm very glad to have found this thread in this league, but There is a lot a less strategy in this thread then I had anticipated.

My strat:

round 1: start in the corner that has the highest letter points, like F,P,M,Z or Q. then I do the 4 letter grid, for example TARE has rate, tare, era, are, tear ear, rat. i do every 4 letter grid, then i move on to looking for long words..

I do freeze and vision every time, and i use them at the same time, freeze first then vision.

round 2 and 3 are same, except I start at the bonus letter.

Which letter to keep your finger on at the last second? I usually do a non outside border letter, so I have many more second letter options. I also usually start on a consonant, near the double or triple letter word.

There is strat if you scroll back to earlier posts. I believe Group 1 is taking the approach of HSNL circa 2008. And by that I mean no public strat talk just strat in Skype groups and IM. /sarcasm

I would be curious to know what Group 1 thinks would be necessary to reach lyndseybrowning's level of skill. Pretty sure volume isn't enough. You have to put together some kind of structured vocabulary study regimen.

i've still never tried vision. am i a total idiot or am i unknowingly playing optimal by using freeze/freeze?

Vision definitely seems better in my limited experience. 3 words + 15 seconds is basically freeze + inspiration.
