Speaking of Black Widow, that title was already taken by a good 1987 Bob Rafelson movie starring Debra Winger and Theresa Russell. And not even based on a comic book, imagine that.

Good actors can be in terrible movies. Terrible actors can be in great movies. Actors come and go. I don't make my choice on what movie to watch based on who is in them. Comedians aren't quite the same thing; they're more like a concert.

Correct. There is never a guarantee of anything. But if the suggestion is that the quality of the cast doesn’t affect the probability of an enjoyable experience at all, that’s absurd.

I'm partially in the Didace camp. There are a few actors I really like, and a few I really avoid. But the vast majority are just faces in the crowd. If I'm undecided about seeing a movie, who is in it may play a part in my decision.

I'm far more familiar with actors from years past than recent ones. I may have been paying more attention when I was younger or perhaps it is simply repetition and familiarity.

Meryl Streep in a part with an accent.

I've also watched the original Dune years ago, and have never read the book(s).

highly recommend both approaches

this section of the dune book wiki is amazing
imagine all it would take for Moebius to illustrate this twisting snake of characters captured while digesting its own tail

It's pretty required. Dune 2 starts basically right after Dune ends, and honestly this is basically just one long movie with a three-year intermission. Dune 2 is the payoff of all the foundation original Dune lays.

I haven't seen the original Dune adaptation though, so perhaps if you remember the story well from that then this would make more sense than someone just going in 100% cold.

Edit: the original was bonkers imo. Most memorable scene for me was the guy floating around having his puss drained from his sores, who had STING as his underling, and then he pulled out some slaves heart plug or some ****. It was like an acid trip.
